I hope this newsletter finds you well!

My staff and I are preparing for the 2019 City of Ocala Election that will be held on September 17. Eligible voters registered within the city limits will elect a Mayor and City Council, Seats 2 and 4. To view a list of candidates that have filed with our office to run for Election, visit VoteMarion.com .

Outreach in our schools and community are heating up! We are conducting our annual High School Voter Registration Challenge, Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) elections in Elementary schools, and providing voter registration drives and mock elections at various community events.

HIGH SCHOOL VOTER REGISTRATION CHALLENGE
It's that time of the year again for our Annual High School Voter Registration Challenge!

Supervisor Wilcox and representatives from the Supervisor of Elections office are visiting high schools in Marion County to educate students on the importance of voting and register eligible students to vote.

So far we have visited Trinity Catholic, North Marion, and West Port High. Next stops are Forest, Vanguard, Belleview, Dunnellon and Lake Weir High.

The winner will be determined by the number of new valid voter registrations based on the percentage of eligible students enrolled in the school and will receive a traveling trophy and name on a plaque displayed in our office. 
COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE
Are you a college student majoring in Political Science/Public or Business Administration or Journalism/Mass Communication? You could qualify for one of three $1,200 scholarships awarded by the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE) in 2019.

VETERAN STAND DOWN
We provided voter registration and promoted our Wall of Honor at the Ocala Veteran Stand Down held by Veterans Helping Veterans. It was an honor to say thank you to all those whose served to allow us our freedom to vote. The next time you vote, vote in honor of a veteran.
ELECTION CENTER SPECIAL WORKSHOP
Your Supervisor of Elections, Wesley Wilcox, CERA presented voter turnout data on Florida's Elections leading into 2018 at the Election Center Special Workshop in Birmingham, AL.
KING OF THE WING
We conducted an unofficial election for the 13th Annual King of the Wing event benefiting ARC Marion, Inc. Ticket holders got to vote for their favorite chicken wing in the restaurant and amateur division using our ADA compliant voting machines. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you for supporting our community!

True or False? Early Voting is only offered during county-wide elections.
