Alderman Nugent's office has submitted a Traffic Study to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) to assess pedestrian safety at the intersection of N. Milwaukee Ave. & W. Raven St. on January 18, 2024. She is requesting CDOT assess the feasibility of installing a new Traffic Signal to allow for a safer pedestrian crossing - specifically noting the use and proximity to Onahan Elementary School.
We recognize the hazards of this intersection.
In 2018, a pedestrian refuge island and pedestrian crossing signage were installed to assist pedestrians crossing N. Milwaukee Ave. Her office requested an initial traffic study in 2022 and are now submitting these additional requests for more comprehensive recommendations – hopefully a traffic signal at this intersection.
While she submitted the traffic study on January 18th, the actual study will not be conducted until Spring 2024 when the weather warms up. This will give CDOT the most accurate data in order to collect traffic, pedestrian, and bicycle counts. These counts will be used to assess the feasibility of a traffic signal.
Her office will share the results of this study with your organization when the study is complete. If you have any questions, please contact Samantha Brewer at Samantha.Brewer@CityofChicago.org or at 773.736.5594.
