Mixed Media and Collage

Art Uptown Gallery will feature the mixed media/collage works of Sarasota artist Sharon Stewart in a solo show, January 26 - February 23.  An artist's reception is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 6 - 9 pm at the gallery.  The public is invited.

Ms Stewart was active in the Michigan art scene where she served in leadership positions for several art organizations before moving to Sarasota.  Her works, which have earned numerous awards, are held in private collections across the US and around the world.  The artist explained that much of the art she creates is done on a commission basis.  She offers home consultation, custom design, and individual color choices as well as visits to her Sarasota studio by appointment.

Stewart has worked with a wide range of creative media, including clay, pencil, wood, fabric, oils, acrylics and pastels.  Today, she primarily works with mixed media on canvas and three-dimensional collage. Some works are on gallery wrapped canvas as large as 60" x 48" using acrylics and collage techniques.  She has taught mixed media/collage at the Venice Art Center.

Asian characters, designs and three-dimensional paper shapes are incorporated in her pieces in an attempt to draw the viewer closer to explore the multiple textures and blended colors.  She believes it is important to create uniquely original pieces.  Exotic papers, found objects and various water media blended together result in works that reflect her quest for serenity, tranquility, peace and beauty.

ComCenter Show

Art Uptown Gallery enjoyed a fabulous reception at ComCenter, 9040 Town Center Parkway, Lakewood Ranch, to celebrate the Art Uptown display now being shown.  The reception was very well attended and, thanks to Mr Mariano Vera's superb work on all aspects of the show, a huge success.  You are invited to stop by anytime during business hours, Mon-Fri 8:30 am-5 pm, to view the work of the gallery's artists  which will be on display through February 15.   Art Uptown Gallery and ComCenter have established an affiliation, creating Art Uptown East, where there will be an ongoing show schedule of work from the gallery.  We hope you will drop by ComCenter in Lakewood Ranch to view the work presently on display and also to see upcoming exhibits.
