Annual Meeting THURSDAY, 2/26

We hope you've marked your calendars for this Thursday evening! CHGM's Annual Meeting will highlight our numerous 2014 achievements, and give you a first glimpse of what's coming in 2015.  Please join us on February 26th, from 6:30pm - 8:00pm, at the Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church, 201 Independence Ave SE. Free parking will be available at the National Capital Bank.

CHGM's Annual Meeting is a great opportunity to mingle with CHGM clients, staff, Board, and supporters over light refreshments, and to learn more about what we do and how you can get involved. Please RSVP, and bring as many friends as you'd like, to learn and celebrate our important efforts in supporting our homeless neighbors.
Advocate for our Homeless Neighbors
Capitol Hill Group Ministry is committed to serving our neighbors in need, and works tirelessly every day to support struggling individuals and families. While CHGM focuses heavily on direct service, addressing root causes of homelessness and seeking long term solutions is also an important part of our work. We do some of this ourselves, and also invite our clients and concerned community members to participate. Take a look below to learn about upcoming opportunities to join us in advocating for important actions and resource allocations:

Client Spotlight: Gussie Brooks

graphic-business-woman.jpgAccording to her CGHM Case Manager, Britney Mclean, Ms. Brooks is one of the most driven and determined clients in our Shelter Plus Care program. Ms. Mclean says that, "despite severe health issues that have required frequent hospitalizations and make it hard for her to keep a job and be active, and sometimes even limit her ability to move around her own home, Ms. Brooks is undeterred from living a full life and striving to achieve her goals."

Last year, Ms. Brooks was active in local elections, held a job encouraging people to sign up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act, and took advantage of Ms. Mclean's help to apply to numerous jobs in pursuit of full time employment. Recently, Ms. Brooks' hard work was rewarded when she secured full time work with a nonprofit, which, like CHGM, provides services to low-income and homeless DC residents. She is a shining example of what formerly homeless individuals can achieve when provided with secure housing and support. Congratulations to Ms. Brooks on her hard-earned success!
