Emerald City’s **BIG NEWS**

ECFC is thrilled to announce that the Club has been accepted into the Elite Academy (EA) League for the 2026–27 season. This significant step shows our commitment to providing the highest level of competition and development for our players, coaches, and families. We will have six teams competing in the EA League during the upcoming season, U13 to U18/19 boys’ teams. Read more.

📣 Have you heard? New age groups are coming!

Youth soccer leagues and clubs across the country, including Emerald City FC, will adopt a new age-group-formation system for the 2026–27 season, in accordance with national youth soccer governing bodies. The system aims to divide players by grade, grouping birthdates from Aug. 1 of one year through July 31 of the next year. (Of course these cut-off dates will not always align with players’ grades in school.)

This shift, alongside the addition of six EA-level boys’ teams, means the roster of nearly every team in the Club will be affected. ECFC recognizes that these changes may be challenging or even upsetting to some players who have close bonds with their current teammates. Coaches will work hard to create team cohesion and support all players through the adjustment. View the new age group chart.

High school boys’ tryouts for the 2026–27 season

Tryouts for U16 to U19 boys’ teams take place Feb. 22–26. These tryouts are for all current and prospective new players — and are organized by the new age groups.

For U16 to U19 boys, the Club will hold two dedicated Elite Academy (EA) team tryouts, along with two tryouts for Washington Premier League (WPL) teams. (The WPL is the league ECFC teams currently play in.) Players can register to try out for EA only, for WPL only, or for both, and should attend the two EA, two WPL, or all four sessions, accordingly. Invite your friends!

For next season’s U15 boys (birthdates Aug. 1, 2011–July 31, 2012), the Club will hold EA ID sessions Feb. 22 and 24. These sessions are for players to experience EA-level play in advance of formal tryouts in late April.

Tryout schedule and registration.
