IAED Welcomes New and Returning Board Members


IAED appointed its 2023 Board of Directors at the first quarterly meeting of the year in February. New 3-year seats include Jodi Denman (Knickerbocker Bed Company), Carrie Pollak (Hancock Estabrook), and Dr. Martin Stallone (Cayuga Medical Center). Those returning to a 3-year seat are Johanna Anderson (INHS), Jeff Gorsky (Sciarabba Walker), and Chris Malcolm (Wegmans). 


New annual appointments include Christine Lovely (Cornell), Dr. Amy Kremenek (TC3), Greg Mezey (Tompkins County Legislature), and Chris Sponn (Tompkins County Workforce Development Board). A full list of members and officers can be found at IthacaAreaED.org/about-iaed.

IAED Co-Hosts Reception with Cornell President


On February 1st, IAED co-hosted a business leaders’ reception with Cornell President, Dr. Martha Pollack. Members and special guests of IAED, Cornell, the Downtown Ithaca Alliance, and the Tompkins Chamber heard remarks by Dr. Pollack and hosts, with light fare and casual conversation afterward. The event was a tremendous opportunity to review and recognize Cornell’s impact in the community and its important role in economic development.

Cornell Releases 2022 Local Economic Snapshot


Cornell University released its highly anticipated 2022 Local Economic Snapshot in February. Among its many highlights, “Visitor Spending” rebounded to approximately 76% of pre-pandemic levels (FY19). The report is live on Cornell.edu and can also be found on Cornell’s Community Relations website.

State of the State Comes to Ithaca


On February 15th, Erik Kulleseid, Commissioner of NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, presented the 2023 State of the State/Budget Address at the Tompkins County Public Library. Business leaders, community members, and elected officials participated in a 30-minute presentation and corresponding Q&A session. The event was one of several intended to disseminate Governor Hochul’s vision and economic outlook across New York State.

IAED’s Direct-to-Work Manufacturing Program Accepting Applications


IAED’s Direct to Work: Pathways to Manufacturing (DTW) Program is soon to launch its first cohort of 2023. DTW is a full-time, four-week training running from March 27th – April 21st. Successful participants receive a nationally-recognized Certified Manufacturing Associate certification (CMfgA) through Tooling U-SME, a $500 stipend, and guaranteed interview(s) with participating Tompkins County manufacturers.

Applications Open for REV’s Summer 2023 Prototyping Hardware Accelerator


Rev: Ithaca Startup Works’ 10-week Prototyping Hardware Accelerator leads physical product teams in a thorough analysis of whether their ideas are commercially desirable, technologically feasible, and economically viable. Upon program completion, participants are better positioned to recruit team members, bring on partners, initiate work with contract manufacturers, and pitch to investors. Attend an information session or apply now for the 2023 summer cohort. Deadline is March 31st.


Employer Registration for TC3 Spring Career Events


Employers looking to engage college students and the community while creating talent pipelines are encouraged to attend career exploration and recruitment events on the TC3 campus in 2023! Opportunities include:


  • On-Campus Info Sessions to promote your organization and jobs
  • Career Exploration Week tabling events, March 6-10, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Job and Internship Fair, March 22, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

FUNDING

Empire State Development Offering COVID-19 Tax Credits


Small businesses that incurred extra expenses as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic may qualify for tax credits of up to $25,000 from New York State’s COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit Program. For eligibility or to apply, visit esd.ny.gov/covid-19-capital-costs-tax-credit. Applications are accepted until March 31st.

Tompkins Chamber Healthy Workforce On-the-Job Training Grant



Deadline: Rolling

Purpose: Support people in recovery by receiving education and training support, new job opportunities, and maintaining a recovery-friendly workplace and employer base.
