Hear Our Voices, The Embracing Autism Evening Benefitting the Avondale House Adult Programs

We hope you can join us on April 14, 2023 for The Embracing Autism Evening, Hear our Voices event!

For more than 45 years, Avondale House has provided services to the most profoundly affected individuals with autism who are often incapable of participating in traditional settings or other community-based organizations due to the severity of their condition. The prevalence of autism has tripled over the last 20 years in children, and by 2030 an estimated one million teens are expected to age out of school-based autism services. Many individuals with autism lose vital support once they graduate or age out of school-based services, so we fill this gap through our programs, specifically adult day habilitation, residential services, and an employment services program.  

Currently, we have a waitlist of adults with autism who are in dire need of support. Funds raised for this event will benefit our three adult programs to ensure that we can meet the demand for their services. 

The highly anticipated event will feature a live performance from three of Nashville’s top singer/songwriters, Phillip White, Monty Holmes and Kent Blazy, a fabulous dinner and an awards ceremony honoring Capital One, Corporate Partner Honoree and Houston Methodist, Medical Honoree. 

No adult with autism should ever be turned away from receiving high quality education, resources and care. With the help of generous supporters like you, Avondale House can continue to ensure that adults with autism can develop to their fullest potential.

Recap: Chevron Houston Marathon Weekend of Events!

Team Avondale House is still on a runner's high after the Chevron Houston Marathon race weekend! We are so proud of our faithful team and thankful for their support in running or walking for autism acceptance.

2023 Runner Spotlight: Meet Ashley

Ashley participated in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon with our team. We are so proud of her!

Ashley says: "I run for Avondale House because the unique needs of individuals with autism are complex and often misunderstood. Awareness is such an important part of making our world more inclusive."

Are you interested in participating in the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon or the We Are Houston 5K in 2024? Registration is now open!

By joining Team Avondale House, you commit to fundraising $500 for the full and half marathon, or $250 for the 5K.

Some fundraising perks to note:

• Avondale House covers the registration fee for Chevron Marathon, Aramco Half Marathon runners, and 5k runners
• The top fundraiser for Team Avondale House will win a two-night stay at Hilton Americas-Houston before the big race! The marathon will be just steps from your hotel room

Now Accepting: New Adult Day Habilitation Participants

The adult day habilitation program has recently expanded to a new space, and we are accepting new program participants. This exciting expansion will allow us to double the number of adults that we currently serve and open our program to those that have long-awaited our vital services. With a recreational room, life skills lab, grocery vocational lab and more, the space will encourage community-based activities and improve social and vocational skills of our program participants.

Charon is our February Team Member of the Month!

Charon is the Executive Assistant at Avondale, and is a joy to work with. She goes above and beyond to serve all of her work colleagues, and always meets others with kindness. Charon adds so much to our team with her positive energy and amazing work ethic! She is welcoming, warm, helpful, and is extremely knowledgeable in all things Avondale! She is very much appreciated for her hard work, and it has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside her at Avondale.

She was also nominated for her hard work in putting together a lovely holiday party for our staff! We are so grateful.
