This is our largest fundraising/friendraising event of the year! Each year, we walk about 2 miles to spread awareness of our mission to provide affordable housing, home repairs and home modifications for our neighbors living in Sagadahoc and Lincoln Counties, as well as Brunswick and Harpswell. We hope this will be our biggest event yet!

How you can help!

  • Register to walk (registration will be open by February 15, 2025)
  • Form a team and raise money for your team (get your friends together, or consider forming a business or church team!)
  • If you're a business, consider becoming a sponsor (it's a great way to partner and promote your business)
  • Help with event planning (how fun would it be to work with an amazing event- planning team to pull this together?)
  • If you can't walk or participate, consider sponsoring a team (everyone can help in some way)

For more information, contact Chris Wolff.

We'll be sharing more details throughout February. Stay tuned!

The ReStore has switched to winter hours

The ReStore is partnering with Curtis Memorial Library to host

Repair Cafe

Saturday, February 15, from 10 AM to 12:30 PM

ReStore, 1 Chander Dr., Bath, ME

Repair Cafe is a community-based initiative designed to encourage people to repair broken or damaged items rather than discarding them. These events are typically hosted in libraries, community centers, or local spaces and bring together skilled volunteers (repair experts) and community members who need help fixing everyday items.

Come join us- expert volunteers can fix your everyday items and keep them out of the landfill. They’ll even show you how to do it yourself!

These winter months are the most challenging for our Maine small businesses, so we are helping to promote VisitBath's Bee Bath Buy Bath initiative! Look for this sign in the window of participating locations, and help VisitBath support our downtown hive with weekly chances to win up to $100 in gift of Bath certificates to spend downtown.

SPOTLIGHT ON VOLUNTEERS

Catherine Gleason, ReStore Volunteer

Why did you choose to volunteer at Habitat? What was it about Habitat that drew you to us?

"I'm new to Maine, having just arrived in July 2024. I found myself with some flexibility and a desire to volunteer, so I just started looking for opportunities. I had bought and refinished a really cool 1950s dresser from the ReStore, and I love thrift and antique stores. My education and professional experience is mostly as an artist and designer, so I love to work with my hands and be around "stuff." It just seems like the perfect fit.

The other things that drew me in:

  • The fact that the ReStore diverts so much from landfills and provides affordable furniture, appliances (incredible deals), tools, and building supplies; -The mission of providing home repairs to people in need.
  • My belief is that community care and interconnection are more important now than ever, and that's the core of Habitat, in my opinion."

How long have you volunteered with us? How many shifts/hours do you do on average/week or month?

"I've been volunteering since November 2024, doing two or three shifts per week, somewhere between six and nine hours per week. I expect I will dial back eventually. For now I am having too much fun!

What do you like the most about volunteering with Habitat?

"Do I have to choose one thing?

  • Seeing furniture and tools from a range of eras- it's fascinating to see the color, form, and fabric trends that have come and gone, and sometimes come back again. It's like a living design museum.
  • The staff and volunteers. All of them are folks who also like to treasure hunt, tinker, and chat about the donations that come in. And they are, to a person, kind, welcoming, resourceful, and funny.
  • The sustainability aspect. It can't be understated how crucial it is to reduce waste. Conspicuous consumption is destroying our home (Earth)."

What advice would you give someone who may be interested in volunteering with us?

"Get into it! You don't have to make a crazy commitment, you can come in three hours a month. And you don't have to be able to move furniture- there are plenty of other tasks (testing tools and appliances, cleaning donations, working the register). The peopel are cool, the discount (25%) is amazing, and you'll be earning karma points so that you can come back as Cher in your next life."

Gary Fuller

Critical Home Repair Program/Harpswell Aging at Home Volunteer

Why did you decide to volunteer with Habitat?

"I'm fairly new to Harspwell. I was involved with Kiwanis in the past. I was talking to a neighbor who knew Mark Weaver was involved as a newer volunteer with Harspwell Aging at Home. I was very interested in becoming involved in my local community and I knew about Habitat for Humanity and that there was a connection with Harspwell Aging at Home. I reached out to Mark and he connected me with Habitat for Humanity 7 Rivers Maine. It was a perfect fit for giving me an opportunity to volunteer my time to help those in need in my immediate community.

I go out with the crew once/week, sometimes twice/week. There is great communication about projects details for the week- what the project are and what is needed- it's a very smooth process. The work day is about 8 AM until about 3 PM depending on the project."

What is your favorite part of being a volunteer?

"I love to meet the homeowner and provide concrete, tangible help. It feels good to do work that helps people be safer in their home. We do a a lot of safety modifications, like putting in lighting, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors- all to help people be safe and comfortable in their homes.

I love being part of a community of people, making friends. It's a really great network and we help each other in so many ways through sharing tips and resources. It's been great getting to know my neighbors and feeling connected when I'm out and about in the community. It's great doing concrete, tangible work that directly helps people.

Harpswell Aging at Home does so much more to help the community, doing community lunches. My wife is involved in volunteering by cooking and packaging meals- she's met so many people through her volunteer work.

I'm so glad we moved to Maine- what seems unique to Maine is this concept of neighbors helping neighbors. You don't even have to ask. I help my neighbor with snow-blowing because I want to. Someday we all help each other. I volunteer because it is the right thing to do.

We had a neighbor who wouldn't be released from rehab until a ramp was built to his home. Harspwell Aging at Home got to work quickly on this so he could return to his home. It's a very gratifying feeling to be able to help someone is such a direct way."

What advice would you give to someone who may be interested in volunteering with Habitat?

"Absolutely try it! It may be for you, it may not, but you won't know unless you try. You'll feel and see the immediate impact of your volunteer work. If you have some kind of skill set, join. Some people have skills, and some don't. It doesn't matter because you'll learn alongside other volunteers! What better way to learn than by doing.

I honestly feel that the best thing you can give is your time. Habitat and Harpswell Aging at Home are great programs- people helping people."
