Madison Station Quilt Guild, Secretary’s Report
General Membership Meeting, January 11th , 2024
Location: St Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 786 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758
Attendance: 58 members, 1 visitor
Call-to Order: Meeting was started at 6:31 pm by President Sue Bartlow
Old Business:
- A motion to approve the December meeting minutes was made, seconded and
- approved.
- Tickets for the 90 x 90 Opportunity Quilt are available for $1 each. Please purchase
- tickets or take a stack to sell. This is a big fundraiser for the guild. The quilt was pieced
- by David, quilted by Sue and bound by Sonya.
HQH quilt show:
Members are encouraged to provide items for our booths at the upcoming HQH Quilt Show on March 15th and 16th, 2024.
Examples include: bowl cozies,
mug rugs, pin cushions, placemats, layer cakes, patterns and other sewing
related items in good condition. January 13th will be a sew day for booth items.
MSQG members can obtain tickets for $5 at this or February’s meeting or $10 at
the door and these include entry to the Judge’s Reception on March 14th and two-day
entry to the show. Our guild meeting for March 14th will be held at the VBC.
New Business:
- The speaker for February will be Carmen Geddes who will discuss perfect piecing and her Easy Piecing Grid. She will be presenting an accompanying workshop on Friday Feb 9th; project options include pincushions or table runners.
- This year’s charity will be Grandparents as Parents. Lorna has put together approximately 20 kits for 3-yard quilts with fabric and patterns. Completed quilts or pieced tops can be given back to Lorna who will do the quilting.
- Donation gifts:
- One member received a thank you gift of a Southern Charm Quilting gift card.
- Three (3) donation gifts of Valentine goodie baskets were awarded.
Speaker: The evening’s speaker was Judy Balance. Having completed over 500 quilts,
teaching and going to a variety of classes and winning numerous ribbons with quilts shown at all levels, Judy shared many quilts with the guild, providing novel ideas and inspiration.
Show-and-Tell: Six members presented seven projects.
Meeting was adjourned.
