2018 Winter Membership Meeting
|
|
|
|
Our 2018 Annual Winter Membership Meeting took place on Thursday, January 18. The evening included cocktails, dinner, 2 guest speakers - lobbyist Mike Oscar and MCAA President-Elect Mike Brandt, and a lively poker tournament. We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the Casino Night benefitting the M&SCA PAC Fund. Your participation in these events is invaluable and makes all of our initiatives possible.

M&SCA Contractor Members invited to attend upcoming FREE Labor Management Conference

|
Coming up on Monday, February 12, the Signatory Contractors Association of the Greater Delaware Valley & Southern New Jersey will be hosting The BUILD Conference. Registration for the conference is free. This event will help bring the locals in the Philadelphia Building Trades and the Contractor Associations closer together.

Steamfitters LU 430 4th Annual Monte Carlo Night
Benefitting Make-a-Wish Foundation

Steamfitters LU 420 will be holding their 4th Annual Monte Carlo Night benefitting Make-a-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware, & Susquehanna Valley on Saturday April 7, 2018. The evening will include food, beer, wine, & casino games, and a poker tournament. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes of children diagnosed with critical illnesses. We regret to inform you of the passing of John Dugan. Mr. Dugan was a 40 year member of Steamfitters Local 420, and served as its Assistant Business Manager before becoming an International Representative for the United Association. John had most recently been the Director of Jurisdiction for the UA, retiring in 2011. He was a friend of our Association and its members. John will be missed by his friends, his family and the industry.
Services will be as follows:
A viewing will take place Thursday, February 8, from 6:00-8:00pm at Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, located at 300 Fayette Street, Conshohocken, PA 19428
A second viewing will be held on Friday morning, February 9, from 10:00-10:45am, prior to an 11:00am Funeral Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary church. The church is located at 819 Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, 19128
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Keystone House, 8765 Stenton Avenue, Wyndmoor, PA 19038.
Flowers will be sent to the service by the M&SCA of Eastern PA on behalf of our members

Two Important Industry Bills Advance in the PA Senate
|
|
|
|
On Tuesday, January 30, two pieces of legislation important to our industry advanced in the PA State Senate.
HB 566, also known as Prompt Pay, passed the Senate Labor & Industry Committee with a bipartisan majority of 9-3 and
SB 234, also known as PACE, passed the full Senate with a bipartisan majority of 42-8.

MCAA continues to lobby the Trump Administration for support of the impending Give Retirement Options to Workers (GROW) Act proposal. Under the proposed legislation, multiemployer pension plan trustees could consider a new type of plan design option that modernizes risk allocation, making the plan more sustainable for workers, retirees, and contributing employers alike. M&SCA of Eastern PA will be meeting with Senator Bob Casey (PA) on February 13 in Washington to discuss this important issue.

REMINDER: ACA Reporting Resources
Reporting Deadlines:

As you may know, the size and structure of your workforce determines the way your business approaches ACA reporting. An employer’s size is determined by the number of its full-time employees, including full-time equivalents. Employers must determine their ALE (Applicable Large Employer) status each calendar year based on the average size of their workforce during the prior year. Use the link below to determine if you are an ALE.
