GLOBAL TIES U.S. 2019 NATIONAL MEETING
|
|
In late January, Martin Baier and Ashley Eason represented The International Center at the
Global Ties U.S.
2019 National Meeting in Washington, D.C. Each year, this meeting provides our staff and leadership of the International Visitor Leadership Program the chance to connect with our partners at Global Ties U.S., the U.S. Department of State, programming agencies, and the network of more than 80 organizations across the country that host professional exchanges through the IVLP program. IVLP provides emerging leaders from around the globe the chance to meet with their professional peers around the U.S. through a targeted visit.
This year’s meeting centered around the theme, “The Exchange Effect: Growing Impact at Home and Abroad.” During the formal seminars and side conversations we had the chance to showcase the successes of our work as well as learn from the successes of others. Center visits to various embassies, including China and Finland, rounded out an impactful week in D.C.
While the government shutdown limited involvement by State Department personnel, many of them were still able to join in meetings and conversations. Even with anticipated delays in federal funding, we learned we can still anticipate a full year of groups visiting Indianapolis from around the world, and we look forward to involving our network here in professional meetings, cultural activities, and dinner hospitality soon!
