Welcoming Angela Blanchard

As Chair of Resilience Committee, I am excited to welcome Angela Blanchard, Chief Recovery and Resilience Officer, to address the strategies necessary to shape Houston's response, resilience, and recovery efforts. With her wealth of experience and visionary leadership, Angela will be at the forefront of building a stronger, more connected Houston—one that stands ready to face any challenges that come our way. Our path to success must be built through collaborations within our neighborhoods.

This success will require the collective efforts of every neighborhood, community leader, and resident. Together, we will forge a path forward—resilient, unified, and prepared for the future.

Join us for our next Resilience Committee Meeting on March 6 at 10:00 am at City Hall,

901 Bagby, 2nd Floor, Houston, TX 77002

National Association of Women Business Owners

Council Member Carter was honored to present a proclamation on behalf of the Mayor's office at the Power of Women in Business conference, where the National Association of Women Business Owners celebrated its 40th anniversary. Held on January 16 at the Norris Centers – Houston, the event brought together women entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and business advocates for a day of inspiration, networking, and growth.

In her opening remarks, Council Member Carter reaffirmed her commitment to supporting women-owned businesses, recognizing their vital role in Houston’s economic landscape. With 36% of businesses in the city owned by women, she emphasized the importance of continued advocacy, access to resources, and community-driven initiatives that empower women entrepreneurs to succeed.

The conference also included an inspiring speech from Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner, Tom Ramsey, who shared his perspective on leadership and economic growth. Council Member Carter was proud to celebrate the achievements of women in business and looks forward to furthering efforts that create a stronger, more inclusive economy in Houston.

The Peanut Butter Cannery

Council Member Carter and a team of dedicated volunteers rolled up their sleeves to support The Church of Latter-Day Saints Peanut Butter Cannery in its mission to fight hunger. During a four-hour shift, volunteers worked to produce over 10,000 jars of protein-packed peanut butter, helping provide essential nutrition to families across Houston and beyond.

The Peanut Butter Cannery supplies the inventory of fresh peanut butter each year to the Houston Food Bank. This unique partnership ensures that high-quality, nutritious food reaches those in need, with volunteers playing a crucial role in the production process—from sorting peanuts to sealing and packing jars.

Council Member Carter was grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside community members and witness firsthand the impact of collective efforts in addressing food insecurity. She encourages Houstonians to get involved in this meaningful initiative and continue supporting organizations that make a difference in the lives of those in need.

The Coalition for the Homeless/The Way Home

Council Member Carter dedicated a morning of service with the Coalition for the Homeless/The Way Home. The At-Large 3 team participated in the annual count and survey that helps identify the needs of our unhoused individuals and the effectiveness of current city housing programs and resources.
