February 2026 PKD e-News

Welcome to the February e-News from the PKD Foundation of Canada! This month we have information on phosphates and potassium in the PKD diet, an upcoming webinar on grocery shopping for PKD, DIY Walks to END PKD, and more!

Walk Where You Are

Have you ever wanted to host a Walk to END PKD in your own community, but weren’t sure where to start?

This year, we’re launching Community DIY Walks - simple, volunteer-led events supported by national tools, guidance, and a modest budget.

You don’t need to host a large event to make a meaningful impact.

With a clear plan and Foundation support, you can bring people together, raise awareness, and create connection close to home.

Celebrate. Connect. Give.

Bananas: Yes or No?

If you're living with PKD, you've likely heard mixed messages about potassium and phosphorus.

Some sources say to avoid bananas and potatoes forever. Others warn about additives hiding in packaged foods.

It can leave you wondering what actually matters for PKD, and what doesn't.

This blog breaks down potassium and phosphorus in a clear, practical way so you can make informed choices without unnecessarily restricting your diet.

Cart Confidence

Ever left the grocery store second-guessing your cart? You’re not alone. Food advice for PKD can feel confusing, and decision fatigue is real.

Join registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator Emily Campbell for a practical, confidence-building webinar.

She’ll share simple strategies for choosing kidney-friendly foods, reading labels without overthinking, and stocking your pantry with more clarity.

The session includes a live demo of an easy, kidney-friendly energy balls recipe, and time for Q&A.

Tue 10 Mar @ 7pm ET

Leave your next grocery trip feeling more sure of yourself.

Your Food Questions

We’ve put together a one-minute 2026 PKD Nutrition Survey, and we’d love your honest thoughts.

What you share will help us:

  • Figure out what kind of nutrition info is actually useful
  • Create blogs, recipes, and learning events that feel practical
  • Focus on the questions people with PKD are really asking

As a small thank-you, everyone who completes the nutrition survey can have a chance to receive one of three kidney-friendly nutrition cookbooks.

Three names will be chosen randomly from those who share their contact information at the end of the survey.

Survey closes this Thursday, 19 February at midnight.

The Emotional Side

Speaking of surveys, we're also interested in hearing about patients' and caregivers' mental health experiences with PKD.

This information will help healthcare professionals understand gaps in mental healthcare for PKD.

Research Roundup

The Mayo Clinic is studying the use of gene editing to reverse ADPKD.

Two recent studies explore ADPKD in women.
