Be Heart Smart - Heart Disease Prevention Workshop


Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the US? You are invited to an interactive and informative workshop to learn tips and tricks to keep your heart as healthy and strong as possible.


This class is for you if:

• Have a family history of heart disease

• Your cholesterol been slowly increasing

• You experience high blood pressure

• Confused about what your lab values mean

• Tired of navigating all the advice on the internet

• Just curious about the latest in heart health research


Join our Cardiac Rehab Dietitian, Lisa Fligor, MS, RDN as we break it all down for you in simple easy to follow terms. WE will discuss a variety of topics including healthy fats, exercise recommendation, sodium intake, sleep needs and stress management techniques. Leave with clarity and direction regarding lifestyle habits that will improve your heart health and leave you feeling confident on how to take control of your health.


We recommend (but don’t require) you bring a recent (in the past 6months) lipid panel to class with you. Talk to your primary care or visit the affordable labs event.

We offer a variety of affordable lab tests and screenings each month at two convenient locations, the Tahoe Forest Center for Health in Truckee, CA and Incline Village Community Hospital in Incline Village, NV. No appointment is necessary.

Tahoe Forest Cooking Club: Heart Healthy Foods


Get out of your cooking rut and come get INSPIRED at our monthly Health Supportive Cooking Club! You get to taste test and take home easy, healthy, and delicious recipes!


February is Heart Health Month! We will be cooking foods that are good for your ticker and taste good too.

Yoga for Caregivers


Are you a parent, teacher, nurse or other caregiver? Do you feel like you could use some time to deeply care for yourself, to engage in supportive rest and reset your nervous system? This workshop will provide you with time for deep relaxation and restoration of body and mind, with gentle movement, long holds, lots of support and a focus on giving back to yourself. No prior yoga experience is necessary - all bodies are welcome! Props will be provided, but please bring layers to stay warm and something soft to place over your eyes, such as a scarf, eye pillow or lightweight shirt.

Learn When & How to Introduce Solid Foods to Your Baby

 

  • Class materials and information were UPDATED in April, 2022 to reflect parents’ needs and current evidence
  • Foster a healthy relationship with food, right from the start by using a baby-led approach!
  • Learn how to safely and nutritiously start your infant on a path to healthfully eating a wide variety of foods.

 

For Parents of babies 4 - 8 months old, infant caregivers, and anyone wanting evidence-based information on infant food nutrition. This class covers all methods of starting solids, including purees and “baby led weaning” (finger foods).

 

February 10th from 12:30 AM- 2:30 PM, $45 per person, Pre-Registration Required. This class is offered in-person and virtually.

Nutrition for a Healthy Pregnancy


Feed your body and baby for optimal health! Learn how to meet all nutrition needs for you and your baby. Topics include managing pregnancy symptoms, foods to increase nutrient needs, quick and easy recipe ideas, reducing your risk for food-borne illness, and healthy weight gain.

Mama's Meet Up


  • This informal support group will help you as you transition into the fourth trimester.
  • Hands-on breastfeeding support for new moms and their infants!
  • This support group is provided by registered nurses, international board-certified lactation consultants, and certified lactation educators.


Tahoe City: Every Monday, 9:30-11:30am

Truckee: Every Wednesday, 1:30-3:00pm (Sierra Community House)

Birthing with Confidence


Our goal is to make you as prepared as possible to welcome your baby into the world! This prepared childbirth class provides the tools you need to labor and birth naturally, with minimal intervention and/or without medication. The class covers what to expect in all the stages of labor, relaxation techniques, labor positions, breathing techniques, as well as medication, interventions, and an overview of cesarean section. Your partner/coach will learn how to support you during your birthing experience.

Baby Friendly 101


This class informs all expectant parents about birthing at Tahoe Forest Hospital. It includes education on Baby Friendly practices, bonding with your baby during the first "magical' hour, rooming in to understand baby's needs from the start, benefits of breast feeding, proper latch, and opportunity to connect with other parents before delivery. Free!

National Maternal Mental Health Hotline


The Hotline, funded by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, HHS and powered by Postpartum Support International, is available 24/7, 365 days a year, in English or Spanish, and other languages by request. The Hotline is available for pregnancy, postpartum, and post-loss support.

 

Staffed by licensed and credentialed perinatal mental health and healthcare providers, childbirth professionals, and certified peer specialists, the Hotline provides immediate and informed access to support, understanding, brief intervention, and resources to all pregnant, postpartum, and post-loss individuals AND their partners and families.

Youth Vaping Cessation Counseling


Forget trying to quit alone. We are here to help you succeed in quitting vaping with one-on-one counseling via phone and text. We give you structure, support and strategies that fit your personal needs. This is a free resource for the youth in our community!

Pilates Fundamentals Workshop


Pilates exercises focus on engaging the body and mind together while utilizing the Pilates Principles to strengthen muscles, increase flexibility and improve balance and coordination.

ACL Post-Op Rehab Workshop


This workshop is for patients 4 months or more post-op ACL reconstruction surgery. It is a small group setting, that focuses on single leg strengthening and return-to-sport training, and neuromuscular re-education.
