New 45 Side Drop Off Procedure

The administrative team has been working to develop new drop-off/pick-up procedures for both sides of the building. Our utilization of additional signage, cones, and barriers, along with the new procedures on the Highway 45 side of the building should help create improvements.

Parents entering from Highway 45 will proceed up the drive to the entrance doors. There will be cones placed across half of the entry to allow only one lane of access. This is to prevent the passing of cars which students are exiting from. Cars are able to unload students 3 cars at a time. There will be a stop sign placed before the crosswalk so that cars know where to stop and unload. This will allow students that are dropped off on the east side of the parking lot to cross the crosswalk safely. Parents that have students needing special assistance will be encouraged to pull through the unloading zone and use the handicap parking spots to unload their child and walk them to the entrance. After you drop off your child please proceed slowly through the parking lot and leave at the exit most convenient for you.

Cars that enter the parking lot from 203rd Avenue can follow the side entrance and drop their students off at the crosswalk. Please have them exit your car on the school-side of your vehicle so they are not exiting into passing traffic. They can then use the crosswalk to cross the parking lot and then enter the building.

Along the front of the building near the main entrance, a barrier is set up along the sidewalk so that cars do not pull up too close and put kids in harm's way. Since there is no curb along the front entrance it can be difficult to see where the sidewalk separates from the parking lot.

We are hoping these precautions and procedures will make for a safer drop off area for our students and allow for easier traffic flow. We realize people that are dropping off students are often on their way to work, but we need to have procedures and a design that slows things down a little and creates a safer environment for students.

In order to make up our missed instructional time due to weather closures the following changes have been made to the remainder of the 2018-2019 Bristol School Calendar:

  • Monday, April 22nd will be a full day of school for all students.
  • 6th-8th GRADE ONLY - 6 minutes will be added to the school day beginning on Monday, March 4th. School hours will be 7:37 a.m. - 2:43 p.m.

Spring Break will stay the same (March 25th-29th). The last day of school will remain June 7, 2019.

Please note these changes only remedy our current instructional minute deficit and may not account for any additional time lost that may be incurred yet this winter.

We understand these changes may cause inconveniences and we apologize. Keeping our students and staff safe as they travel to and from school is one of our most important responsibilities. We will continue to keep you posted should further changes develop that necessitate altering the schedule further.
At the Board of Education meeting last week, the Bristol School Board approved the 2019-2020 School Calendar. This calendar can be found on our website.

The Wisconsin Standards for Social Studies were revised, updated, and released during the spring of 2018. These new standards now have a focus on both content and skills, with an emphasis on inquiry practices and processes. As we work to prepare our students for life after school and jobs that may not even exist yet, there is an increased emphasis on providing students with opportunities for inquiry. Social Studies standards will have six differentiated stands within the standards. They include Inquiry Practices and Processes, Behavioral Sciences, Economics, Geography, History, and Political Science.

The state of Wisconsin has encouraged districts to utilize a three-year implementation plan for integrating the new Social Studies standards. During year one, the focus is on understanding and developing foundations of the new standards with staff. Year two will focus on developing our local curriculum and resources to support the new standards. During year three, our instructional practices will align with and support these new standards. As part of this process, our teachers will work collaboratively to gain understanding and foundations of the new standards as we develop curriculum and align resources to support our students’ learning, growing and succeeding with the new Social Studies standards.
Have you talked to your Children?
Families and school educators play a critical role in helping reestablishing a sense of normalcy after a tragedy takes place. Talking to your children about violence is never an easy task. Take a look at the tips the Nation Association of School Psychologists gives for talking to children about violence.

Bristol's Peer Model Program
Every school district is required to provide early childhood programming for students with special needs, starting at the age of three. In order to best meet the needs of some of these students, Bristol School District started our very own “Peer Model Program.” This program is designed for children with and without disabilities to learn from and form relationships with peers. The classroom consists of three year old students identified with special needs, and up to five of their typically developing peers. The classroom is led by a dual licensed Special Education Teacher and supported by a Special Education Classroom Assistant, Occupational Therapist, and Speech/Language Therapist.

A peer model enhances the educational experience of a special needs student by being a leader, a helper and a friend. Peer models help special needs students reach their goals in the areas of play and social interaction, and can model appropriate school behaviors such as sharing, turn taking, participation and self-advocacy. Our peer models are also learning! They grow in their confidence, empathy and their school readiness skills.

I am proud to say that we are the only school district in the county who currently runs an inclusive program like this one! Next year will be our third year and we are very excited to welcome a new group of students into the program! We are currently accepting Peer Model applications for the 2019-2020 school year. For more information on our program and directions on how to apply for participation, please see our website:

Did you know that we also offer developmental screenings for children ages 3-4? If you have concerns regarding your child's development, please contact us to set up a screening appointment! Screening appointments are available in March, April, and May. Contact Kim Rudolph at 262-891-4016 for more information.

Digital Learning Tools
How do teachers prepare students for successful futures? Just as our students come to us from a variety of backgrounds with different strengths and individual dreams, their path to success is equally unique. There is no magic app or tool that will fit every situation or every student’s learning plan. By utilizing appropriate tools, teachers can provide authentic learning experiences to help students set learning goals, master skills, solve problems, generate new questions and apply their learning to challenging real world situations.

Parents can actively engage their children by asking open ended questions such as “What made you choose that specific design?” or “How did you come up with this idea?” and extend conversations beyond short answers. Switch roles and have your child teach you how to use digital learning tools to see how your child thinks through their process. These interactions allow students to move beyond the present and explore alternative outcomes while sharing their excitement for learning with their families.
