When it comes to your workspace, comfort is key. Whether working from home or in an office, proper ergonomics can help you avoid discomfort in your back, neck, shoulders, hands and wrists, as well as headaches and eyestrain.
Here are a few tips to help make your workspace more ergonomically correct:
• Customize your workstation to fit your specific needs
• Place your monitor arm’s length away with the top no higher than eye level
• Keep your keyboard and mouse close to prevent excessive reaching
• Keep your wrists straight and relaxed when typing (do not bend up or down)
• Make sure your forearms are supported and your shoulders are relaxed at all times
• Try to keep the weight of your head directly above its base of support (neck)
• Avoid turning your couch into a workstation
• Adjust your chair so your feet rest on the floor
• Don’t be a slouch (use the lumbar support of your chair)
• Keep your phone in close reach (use hands-free or a headset when possible)
• Take brief breaks every 30 to 60 minutes (stand, stretch and walk around)
