(excerpted from "Dance While You Can" by L. Wubbels)
While I Still Can Dance …
"I will not stand to the side and allow the music in my heart to fade away and die. I WILL DANCE TO MY OWN LIFE SONG...
I will stop looking back WITH REGRETS...
or looking forward WITH FEARS... and give the best I have today.
I WILL SLOW DOWN,
SET LIMITS ON MY COMMITMENTS AND WORK,
AND MAKE CERTAIN THAT THOSE WHOM I LOVE
REMAIN FIRST IN MY LIFE.
I will make a commitment to fulfilling my dreams...
no matter what I may be feeling...
and I will DARE to move forward in the face of life's challenges.
I will believe that what God has placed inside me IS superior to the mountains that stand in my way.
I WILL STOP DOING THINGS THE SAME OLD WAY
JUST BECAUSE I LIKE TO PLAY IT SAFE.
I WILL BE DARING AND COURAGEOUS AND REFUSE TO ALLOW
FEAR TO CONTROL MY ACTIONS.
I will get rid of any BITTERNESS or RESENTMENT or ANGER in m y life.
I will FORGIVE others and not waste my life trying to settle scores.
I will APOLOGIZE to others for anything I've done or said that was wrong.
I will DARE to open the vaults of my heart and mind and express
my feelings for others.
I will love others just the way they are...
without judging them or trying to change them into the image
of what I'd like them to become.
I will establish moral boundaries to live by and refuse
to compromise them... for anyone or anything.
I will celebrate the relationships I share and never take them for granted.
I will treasure them as one of life's sweetest joys.
I WILL STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT WHAT I DON'T HAVE,
AND I WILL LEARN TO BE TRULY GRATEFUL FOR WHAT I DO HAVE.
I WILL BE CONTENT, THOUGH NOT COMPLACENT.
I will look loved ones in the eyes, take their hands in mine, and tell them how much I love them. I will make the most of our time together.
I WILL MAKE LOVE THE CENTER OF MY BEING AND ALL I DO..."
