2023 DIRECTORS' MEETING RECAP
In case you missed it, the Tax Section's 2023 Directors' Meeting was Jan. 19–21 in beautiful, historic New Orleans, LA, and Chair Mark Brown put together a fabulous itinerary. Thank you to all of the Directors, sponsors, and guests who joined us for the event!
The weekend kicked off Thursday with the Directors’ Meeting followed by a reception and dinner at Brennan's Restaurant (with tableside Bananas Foster).

On Friday, our guests enjoyed a tasty breakfast buffet sponsored by Coral Gables Trust Company. Next up was “Hot Topics With Past Chairs—An Intimate Conversation," the CLE coordinated by former Tax Section Chair David E. Bowers. The program featured 10 previous section chairs who shared insights in their respective fields of tax law. Thank you to Management Planning Inc. for sponsoring the CLE. Later that afternoon, our guests enjoyed walking tours of the scenic French Quarter.
On Saturday, we met at the New Orleans School of Cooking for a hands-on cooking class featuring sweet potato bisque, shrimp creole, bread pudding, and more. Later that afternoon we enjoyed a pub crawl that started at the famous Pat O’Briens.
The annual out-of-state Directors' Meeting is a special Tax Section tradition. Our Directors are among the hardest-working volunteers in The Florida Bar. We thank each of them for their hard work on behalf of the Section.
Here are some nice photos from the weekend.

TAX PRO BONO OPPORTUNITIES
Florida’s Low-Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITCs) assist low-income taxpayers with IRS controversies, including, collections, liability disputes and Tax Court petitions. Volunteers needed for the U.S. Tax Court Pro Bono Calendar Call Program. The program is designed to have local tax practitioners volunteer their time to pro se taxpayers during calendar call sessions without entering their names as the attorneys of record. If you are interested in participating in the Calendar Call Program, please contact one of the Tax Section members listed below.
There are also opportunities to volunteer during "Settlement Days," which are held a few weeks prior to calendar call. During a "Settlement Day," pro bono practitioners work with a petitioner to try and resolve a case with representatives from the IRS Office of Appeals and IRS Chief Counsel. Neither opportunity requires you to file an appearance in Tax Court if you do not wish to represent the petitioner before the Court.
