2025 DIRECTORS' MEETING

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Tax Section Directors' Committee Meeting in Key West—networking, meetings, a sunset cruise, a CLE by former section chairs, local excursions, and more. Special thanks to Section Platinum Sponsor Management Planning Inc. partner Roy Meyers and his wife, Marcia, who joined us for the weekend. Your ongoing support of the Section is truly appreciated.

Day One featured the Directors' meeting, where Chair Mark Scott gave a shout-out to 15 New Tax Lawyers (NTLs) who have been making a difference in the Section through committee service, article-writing, CLE presentations, and more. Thank you to NTLs Andrea Arauz from the Law Offices of Moffa, Sutton, & Donnini PA in Fort Lauderdale; Ellina Berdichevsky from Bilzin Sumberg in Miami; and Zachary King with Tripp Scott PA in Fort Lauderdale, who joined us in Key West. Chair Scott presented them with plaques of appreciation for their hard work and dedication to the Tax Section. That evening, the group enjoyed an incredible sunset cruise on the beautiful ship Marquesa.

Day Two started with breakfast and an excellent CLE by several former Tax Section Chairs, “Sunsets and What May Be on the Horizon …” chaired by Cristin Keane. Shout-out to Shawn Wolf, Michael Lampert, Joel Maser, Mark Brown, and Cristin for their informative presentations. Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed a trolley ride throughout Key West to see local landmarks and the city’s beautiful architecture. The Chair’s Reception was followed by a wonderful dinner at Bel Mare.

Thank you to Chair Mark Scott from Kaufman Rossin and our amazing Florida Bar Program Administrator Whitney Bledsoe for creating this interesting, exciting, and fun Directors' Meeting weekend!

FEBRUARY 12 FREE CLE

The Tax Section has teamed up with the Government Lawyers Section to bring you "Florida State Tax Procedure & Dispute Resolution," a one-hour FREE CLE on Zoom. Presented by Jeanette Moffa from Moffa, Sutton, & Donnini, P.A. and sponsored by Jones Lowry, course number 8807 is approved for 1 CLE and 1 certification credit each in Tax Law and City, County and Local Government. Non-section-member registration ($75 Tax, $40 GL) includes membership in each respective section).

State tax law is known for its complexity. Practitioners are asked to reconcile numerous complex, and sometimes seemingly conflicting, state laws and rules to establish the taxability (or not) of sales or income. In all the confusion, it is easy to forget the other side of the coin: procedure. From audit through litigation, state tax procedure is highly technical with rules that are easy to overlook. This joint CLE by The Florida Bar Tax Section and Florida Bar Government Lawyers Section is designed to provide the details of state tax procedure from audit through litigation.
