Ambassador Program Helps Build Texas AGD's
Dental Community
An outreach program to increase retention and recruitment membership initiatives.
As a professional membership organization, we are all asking the same question, “How can I retain our current members and recruit new members?” In an effort to boost this initiative, the Texas AGD launched an Ambassador’s Program in 2018 with two goals: 1) Promote awareness about the benefits and services of the AGD, Texas AGD, and local components to members and nonmembers. 2) Encourage new and current members to become more engaged through communication, interaction, and attendance at events.

How do you get started with your own Ambassador Program? It all starts with the statewide Membership Committee setting the standards for the program to identify who will represent the organization as an ambassador, define the ambassador role, and set goals. In Texas, Ambassadors are volunteers from all over the state that have a desire to engage and help their peers succeed. Often they:

  • Work closely with the local or state Membership Committee to stay on track with goals and receive membership rosters so they can contact new members (phone, email, and/or handwritten letter).
  • Welcome them to the association and inform them of opportunities to network and attend CE.
  • Cross-reference CE rosters with current members to identify, welcome, and recruit non-members.

In addition to connecting with their peers, Ambassadors also get recognized during programs and throughout the year in emails and on social media.  Overall, this is an outreach program by members FOR members that builds a stronger community, formulates friendships with peers, and gives back to the association. And it helps bolster membership numbers! Click HERE to learn more about how the Texas AGD program works and how you can volunteer!

Leader Testimony: “The Ambassador Program is a great approach to connecting with our members and offering them a personal membership experience. We know that once a general dentist experiences the uniqueness of our CE, they will be inspired to take the pathway of Fellowship, Mastership, and Lifelong Learning. Once on the path, they will be lifetime members. We are continuing to grow the number of Ambassadors statewide and our goal would be to have as many as ten in each component area. This strategy promotes micro-volunteerism and the opportunity for new members and non-members to meet more people.” Melissa Brown, DDS, FAGD and Texas AGD Board Member, 2017-2018 Membership Chairperson.
