Houston Forever is a collaborative art exhibition featuring over 30 local and globally recognized visual artists and organizations curated by Prauper Studios in collaboration with ArtHouston Magazine, Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, and The Nash.
It excites me to share that I am 1 of the 30 contributing artists.

The exhibit will run from February 11, 2022 through April 10, 2022 at what was formerly a part of the Texaco Office Building, originally built in 1915. Houston Forever will include works that exemplify Houston culture through the works of the featured artists and the history of the selected organizations. In addition, Prauper Studios will be collaborating with New York based creative powerhouse, Street Dreams Magazine on a premier art installation and periodic programming throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Acclaimed author + Duke Divinity School Professor Kate Bowler and I will hold a public conversation on February 24, 2022, at 5:30pm EST about themes in the exhibition Reliquary of Complicated Truths, currently on view at Duke Chapel featuring my work.

The event is free and open to the public. Face masks must be worn inside the Chapel at all times. Paid parking is available on a first come, first served basis in the Bryan Center Parking Lot at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking is available in the Bryan Center Surface Lot at the same address.

The commissioned exhibition of my work takes its inspiration from a scene in a book by Professor Bowler. In No Cure for Being Human (And Other Truths I Need to Hear), Kate describes being on a trip to the Grand Canyon when she comes upon a remote chapel that is covered in graffiti and slips of paper inserted in the walls with written pleas from the heart, such as "I miss you every day" and "Did you make it to heaven, my love?" Inspired by this scene, I created an installation from discarded wood, paper, and other material that invites viewers to place within the cracks of the work their response to the prompt
"In my life, there is no cure for...."

Reliquary of Complicated Truths can be viewed at Duke Chapel until March 1 between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. daily, except during services and events as indicated on the Chapel website. Learn more here.

In addition to the discussion, the event will include music from singer-songwriter Taylor Leonhardt. The discussion will be followed by a service of Choral Vespers at 7:00 p.m., which comprises hymns, prayers, and music of the Renaissance and early Baroque periods.
Contemporary Collage Magazine Cover + Feature
It delights me to share that a few of my collage works + an interview with me are featured in Issue 4 of Contemporary Collage Magazine. My painting “Roots” (title inspired by a poem by Lucille Clifton of the same name) is even featured on the cover!
It was a pleasure to be in conversation with Les Jones + speak specifically about my mixed media collage work. What Les + Molly are creating is a truly beautiful thing.

You can check out the magazine, subscribe + learn more HERE.
2022 Shakerag Workshops
It delights me to share this special collaboration with my sister + poet, Ciona Rouse, at the June 2022 Shakerag Workshops. We would love for you to join us!

The Shakerag Workshops is a group of arts classes for adults held in June each year on the St. Andrew's-Sewanee campus, in Sewanee, Tennessee.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Ciona + I will bring together our two artistic practices to co-teach a class titled, “Kindred: An Experience of Poetry and Mixed Media Painting.” Poets and visual artists have long been family. From the Parisian and Harlem Renaissance salon cultures to small town gatherings in living rooms and coffee shops, artists of language and various visual media have found their way to each other and to responding to one another's work. In this workshop, we will offer opportunities to study some of these historic artistic pairings and give you space to create both poetry and visual art inspired by the spirit of this natural artistic alliance.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Registration is now open for June 2022 at Shakerag Workshops!
