From the Directors
We welcome a new marque sponsor this year, The Catherine Stein Family. We certainly appreciate their willingness to help us combat child abuse and neglect through Royal Family Kids. Once again Don Fraser has coordinated so many other sponsors and has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars throughout the years.

Starting Saturday morning we will truly have some of the very finest and respected teachers in the world presenting classes at the school. During the lunch break we will have a Town Hall type of event with some of the 9th and 10th Degrees answering questions from our participants with Vishal Shukla moderating.

Barbara has put together a fantastic banquet for Saturday night and we look forward to another memorable evening.
Sunday morning we have traditionally held a karate tournament but this year rather than competition we will have educational opportunities with some of the very best presenting sparring seminars. We will have 4 seminars being conducted by Benny Urquidez, Mike Pombeiro, David Coppock, and Jim McClure. All seminars will be held at our studio

We sincerely thank all of the team that makes this event so special. Nobody receives compensation for their time and efforts and 100% of the net goes to Royal Family Kids.

Thank you all for your support,

Bob and Barbara White
Seminars March 21 - March 22, 2020
Increase Your Knowledge
My interpretation of this is about seeking knowledge. One of the great things about martial arts is that there is always more to learn. The word "Do" means "the way" and the way is to always trying to improve. At our seminars March 21st and 22nd we have some of the very best in martial arts, Benny Urquidez, John Sepulveda, Eddie Downey, Ron Sanchez, John Conway, David Brock, Paul Dye, Mike Pombeiro, David Coppock, and Jim McClure presenting classes.

It is a great educational opportunity. All monies raised will go to Royal Family Kids. If anyone is having financial issues don't let that stop you from attending, just let me know and we can work it out. If you are seeking knowledge come to Costa Mesa.

Steve Hearring Award and More
Steve hearring Award Nominate Your Student
During this year's Bob and Barbara White Charitable Foundation weekend we will once again be honoring a student with the Steve Hearring Leadership Award. The Steve Hearring Award is given to a local martial arts student who best embodies the spirit of Steve Hearring - leadership, humility, integrity, and class.

In the past we've had a number of studios participate by nominating their students and hope that trend continues for the 2020 award. In order to honor this fine man, and the best and brightest of our young martial artists, we are proudly accepting nominations for the Steve Hearring Award.
Please fill out the online nomination form. All nominations MUST be completed and returned by March 8th, 2020. Late entries will not be accepted. Only one nomination per studio please.

Each nomination will reviewed by a panel of independent voters, who will be responsible for selecting the Steve Hearring Award nominee that will be presented at one of the weekend events.

Thank you so much for keeping the Memory of Steve Hearring alive and by nominating your student for this Leadership Award.
If you have any questions, please contact me.

In addition, special Humanitarian Awards will be presented to Bob Mitchell, Ken Kellogg and Rodolfo Cazales in recognition for their community service.

Join us on Saturday, March 21st at the Costa Mesa Country Club in Costa Mesa, California for one of the highlights of the Bob and Barbara White Invitational Youth Karate Weekend.

There is only one more month until our event. Tickets for the banquet sell out every year so please do not wait until the last minute to purchase them. We have kept the ticket cost to $75.00 to accommodate everyone.Tickets can be purchased here

We are fortunate enough to have Rick Avery as our keynote speaker this year. He was involved in "Men in Black, "Dunkirk", "American Sniper", "Star Trek Insurrection", and many more.

Rick is a seventh degree black belt in Kenpo Karate. He holds over 100 fighting and Kata titles. He has fought in prominent tournaments with many well know martial artists, including John Conway Sr., John Natividad, Benny Urquidez. Rick was inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Honors in 2010, received the Kenpo Legacy award in 2017, and more recently in 2019, Rick was inducted into the Masters Hall of Fame.

There is not enough room on this newsletter to highlight all of Rick's accomplishments. To miss this banquet would be to miss an opportunity to hear from someone very inspirational.

And, back, by popular demand, Tupua will be our entertainment this year. They are well-known in the Orange County area and we are fortunate to have them back. Please refer to their website to hear a little of what they have to offer this year.

The Welcome Banquet has become one of the premier events in Kenpo with a veritable "who's who" as the guest list. Pictures from previous year's banquet can be viewed here.

Town Hall
Ask the Legends
During the lunch break on Saturday, we will hold a special Town hall with some of the top leaders in the martial arts. This is your chance to ask the questions you have always wanted to ask. The panel will include such great martial artists as: Bob White, John Sepulveda, Paul Dye, Eddie Downey, Bob Mitchell, Benny Urquidez and more. If you have a question you want to ask one of the legends, please email it to us. Please specify who you want to answer your question.

In addition, we will also hold a Reverse Town hall, where these Kenpo legends will ask questions back to their students. This promises to be a special moment where the history of Kenpo will be shared.
