February 2026: Construction Progress, Rainy Day Seating and more!

Hey Beach!

February has been a month of progress, perspective and partnership.

Earlier this month, University Student Union and Student Recreation & Wellness Center Board of Trustee (URECBOT) student leaders and members, ASI staff and Student Government representatives toured the construction site to see firsthand how the project is taking shape. Walking through the space — seeing the renovation and demolition progress, and understanding the sequencing of the work — was a powerful reminder that Future U is no longer just plans and renderings. It is becoming a physical reality.

The following week, ASI hosted a walkthrough for student media to provide deeper insight into the project. One of the highlights was a tour led by the construction team, including one of our student construction interns, who shared what it means to contribute to a major campus project while still being a current student. Hearing directly from a student working on the build reinforced what makes this project special: it is being shaped not just for students, but by students.

Weather & Campus Pathways

On Monday, Feb. 16, ASI was made aware of flooding on the Friendship Walk stairs. Any time we learn about issues such as flooding, pathway obstructions or construction fence adjustments, we work quickly to communicate updates and coordinate solutions.

If you encounter flooding or obstructions — whether related to construction or not — please email . Your feedback helps us respond quickly and keep campus accessible for everyone.

ADA Pathway Update (Beginning March 2)

Starting March 2, there will be changes to the construction fence line.

The ADA ramp on the north side of the building will close. Pedestrian traffic via the stairs near the Go Beach sign will remain open. Students and visitors requiring an ADA-compliant route will be rerouted to:

  • The elevators in Brotman Hall
  • The pedestrian bridge connecting Brotman Hall to the College of Business

Updated pathway maps will be shared across our communication channels prior to the change.

Rainy Day Seating

With winter weather continuing, ASI has implemented a rainy day seating communication protocol.

When rain is forecasted, ASI reserves additional indoor rooms across campus for exclusive student seating and study space. These locations are announced through:

If rain is in the forecast, be sure to check these channels to find a warm, dry space between classes.

Food & Vendor Updates

All food vendors are fully operational, and The Habit now offers breakfast options. We know affordability remains a priority for students, and we are currently developing a dedicated webpage highlighting $10-or-less meal options across campus dining locations.

More details on that soon.

Until next time, Go Beach!
