Spring Outdoor Programs

Register: Vernal Pools
Register: Community Science

We are excited to announce two free programs this spring!

Saturday, March 15th: Join local naturalist Juanita Hummel for a morning at Idell Preserve exploring the incredible world of vernal pools, crucial habitat for amphibians, in the midst of breeding season. We will enjoy a leisurely hike amongst the pools and keep an eye out for other signs of spring along the way!

Saturday, April 5th: Learn how to use apps on your phone to identify local flora and fauna. HLT’s Director of Stewardship & Digital Media, Emily Dunn, will provide a hands-on introduction to eBird, Merlin Bird ID, and iNaturalist – tools that allow you to identify and document the natural world. We will then take a short hike around the Dvoor Farm to practice using these apps!

These events are free but space is limited - we ask that you RSVP to save your spot. Visit the events page on our website to register.

We are grateful for support of these programs by the National Park Service's Lower Delaware Wild & Scenic River Program, which aims to protect the natural, cultural, and historic values of the Delaware River.

Volunteer Opportunities

Mark your calendar for these volunteer events!

April 12th 9 AM-12 PM: Stewardship Saturday at Idell Preserve (RSVP)

Join our stewardship team to plant native trees! We will be planting seedlings in areas along the trail where extensive invasive species removal was completed last year and protecting these new trees with exclosures. Bring a shovel, gloves, and clippers if you have them.

May 16th 2-5 PM: Stewardship Friday at Dvoor Farm (RSVP)

Join us for a Friday afternoon of caring for the young trees in the stream corridor at Dvoor Farm! We will be cleaning out and fixing up tree cages to ensure their long-term success.

Congratulations to Raritan Township's Citizen of the Year

Raritan Township Committeeman Scott Sipos presents the Citizen of the Year award to Amy Greene

HLT would like to share our congratulations to Raritan Township's 2024 Citizen of the Year, Amy Greene! Amy is an ardent and long-time supporter of land preservation and serves on the township's Open Space Advisory Committee, Green Team, and Environmental Commission. HLT has collaborated with Amy for many years to preserve land, and we are grateful for her current role of co-chair of our Dvoor Farm capital campaign committee. We can think of no better person to be the first-ever recipient of this award!

New Jersey Historic Trust Grant Award

NJ Historic Trust awarded Hunterdon Land Trust a multi-phase preservation grant from the Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund. The award totals $2,250,000 of capital funding for the Dvoor Farm Project, to be made available in $750,000 increments as project milestones are met. HLT plans to install utility upgrades to the site in the next phase of the project. This will include public water, an upgrade to the electric service, and a new septic system.

Now Hiring: Bookkeeper

We are hiring! Applications are now being accepted for a part-time bookkeeper position. Join our team and play a vital role in protecting the places you love. The job description and instructions to apply can be found on our website.
