Reclaiming My T.A.E. (Time, Attention, and Energy)!

Reflecting on my experience as a first responder, I have learned that trauma often resurfaces in unexpected ways. I see a similar burden carried by both children and adults who, despite supportive environments, are continually exposed to violence and tragedy through social media and the news. Many are left in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze - nervous system responses commonly associated with trauma. Events that once shook communities now exist as a constant backdrop. This ongoing exposure can lead to numbness, overwhelm, or emotional exhaustion. These reactions are expected under repeated stress and should never be mistaken for weakness. With the proper trauma-informed support, individuals can process these experiences, regulate their nervous systems, and restore a sense of safety and resilience.

What we need now is unity, along with intentional moments of disconnection that allow us to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters. Beneath the noise and division, most people want the same things: stability, meaningful work, and the ability to care for their families. We are far more alike than we are different, yet many feel trapped in constant urgency, exhausted, and unsure how to pause. Meaningful change begins with awareness, recognizing an unsustainable pace and understanding that asking for help is a strength and the first step toward connection, balance, and resilience.

My mentor and boss often remind me of something they once read, that the three limiting factors in life are Time, Attention, and Energy, T.A.E. We only have so much of each, and we are constantly dividing them among family, friends, work, responsibilities, and social expectations. Somewhere along the way, many of us forget to include ourselves on that list. Finding balance is not about adding more, it is about reclaiming our T.A.E. from places that quietly drain us and intentionally redirecting it toward what truly matters, what aligns with our values, restores us, and allows us to show up more fully in our lives.

My name is Cyril, and I am choosing to be more intentional with my time, attention, and energy (my T.A.E.). I invite you to join me.

Staying Connected and Caring for Your Emotional Health

February is often centered around relationships, but connection goes far beyond romantic partnerships. Meaningful relationships with friends, family, coworkers, and community members play a powerful role in supporting mental health.

When we feel connected, understood, and supported, stress becomes easier to manage and resilience grows stronger. During winter months, when routines shift and daylight is limited, staying connected can make an important difference.

This month, consider taking one small step to nurture connection:

• Reach out to someone you have been meaning to call or text

• Schedule intentional time with someone who makes you feel supported

• Join a group activity or community event

• If you are feeling isolated, consider speaking with a mental health professional

Connection does not have to be big or complicated. Even small, consistent interactions can improve emotional well being.

Introducing the New Clinician Section on the Lakes Center Website

Finding the right care is a personal journey, and we want to make that process as seamless as possible. To help you connect with your perfect match, we’ve completely redesigned and expanded the Clinician section on our website.

Get to Know Our Team

Each member of our clinician team now has a dedicated profile page, allowing you to get a sense of their personality, clinical approach, and areas of expertise before you even book your first session.

We’ve also expanded the use of our intuitive icons so you can see a provider’s treatment types, age specialties, and current availability at a single glance.

Streamline Your Search

Check out our sortable Therapist Chart. This tool allows you to filter our entire Therapy team by the criteria that matter most to you – such as age of patients, focus area, or availability – ensuring you find the right fit in seconds.

In addition to the chart, you can also search our website for specific keywords. Whether you are looking for a specific therapeutic modality like CBT or EMDR, or you need support for a specific life experience such as postpartum depression or neurodivergence, the keyword search connects you directly to the clinicians best equipped to help.

Mental Health Tip:

Give Yourself a Daily Moment to Reset

Life can feel busy and overwhelming. Taking just a few minutes each day to slow down can help calm your nervous system and reduce stress.

Try one of these simple practices:

  • Take a short walk and focus on your surroundings
  • Practice slow, steady breathing for two minutes
  • Stretch gently between tasks
  • Step away from screens before bedtime

Mental Health Tip:

Create a Restful Sleep Routine

Sleep is one of the foundations of emotional health. When sleep is disrupted, mood, and energy can suffer. Small adjustments to your routine can make a big difference. Consider trying:

  • Going to bed and waking up at the same time each day
  • Turning off screens at least 30 minutes before bed
  • Keeping your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet
  • Limiting caffeine later in the afternoon
