Reclaiming My T.A.E. (Time, Attention, and Energy)!
Reflecting on my experience as a first responder, I have learned that trauma often resurfaces in unexpected ways. I see a similar burden carried by both children and adults who, despite supportive environments, are continually exposed to violence and tragedy through social media and the news. Many are left in a constant state of fight, flight, or freeze - nervous system responses commonly associated with trauma. Events that once shook communities now exist as a constant backdrop. This ongoing exposure can lead to numbness, overwhelm, or emotional exhaustion. These reactions are expected under repeated stress and should never be mistaken for weakness. With the proper trauma-informed support, individuals can process these experiences, regulate their nervous systems, and restore a sense of safety and resilience.
What we need now is unity, along with intentional moments of disconnection that allow us to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters. Beneath the noise and division, most people want the same things: stability, meaningful work, and the ability to care for their families. We are far more alike than we are different, yet many feel trapped in constant urgency, exhausted, and unsure how to pause. Meaningful change begins with awareness, recognizing an unsustainable pace and understanding that asking for help is a strength and the first step toward connection, balance, and resilience.
My mentor and boss often remind me of something they once read, that the three limiting factors in life are Time, Attention, and Energy, T.A.E. We only have so much of each, and we are constantly dividing them among family, friends, work, responsibilities, and social expectations. Somewhere along the way, many of us forget to include ourselves on that list. Finding balance is not about adding more, it is about reclaiming our T.A.E. from places that quietly drain us and intentionally redirecting it toward what truly matters, what aligns with our values, restores us, and allows us to show up more fully in our lives.
My name is Cyril, and I am choosing to be more intentional with my time, attention, and energy (my T.A.E.). I invite you to join me.
