Welcome February!
Dear Wonderful Families,

As we look toward the month of March, it is hard to grasp that there are only three months left of this school year. After returning from February vacation all of us will have our eyes on two things - Open House and Graduations!! We hope you have those dates clearly marked on your calendars as you are the special guests at both!!

We are proud to announce that nearly all classes for next year are full and SummerQuest is shaping up nicely...so if you have not re-registered your student for either of those you might have to go on our waiting lists. Please see Sam Wingate if you have special circumstances that need to be considered.

We are looking forward to the “Wearin’ o’ the green” on the 17th and hope that spring weather is not far behind!!

On a special note, we are winding down our “40 for 40” campaign celebrating our 40th anniversary this year!! We will be publishing our special stories regarding those who have been celebrated with donations. This will come out right after our Alumni Basketball game on the 13th where some of those students will be the guests of honor. There are only a few weeks left of this special initiative. All proceeds go directly to our alumni scholarships while kudos go out to all who are celebrated! Thank you for helping us note this momentous occasion in the history of our school...and for helping us to continue this incredible legacy for future students!

Warm regards,
Kathy and Lisa for all of us

Our Proactive Actions Regarding the
COVID-19 Coronavirus
We are currently working proactively to stay informed through The City of Nashua’s Division of Public Health and the NH Department of Health and Human Services (NHDHHS) as they continue to send timely information to schools. We are staying up-to-date with their current recommendations and protocols along with the Center for Disease Control’s guidelines for schools. Additionally, World Academy will be participating in a webinar for schools on March 3rd being held by the NH DHHS, and we will continue to be vigilant in seeking out the best practices available in regards to this. Please know that our students’ and staff’s safety is our main priority.

We are formulating plans in the event that we might need them for maintaining our students’ education smoothly and without gaps by expanding the digital learning protocols that we have for inclement weather to address remote education for a short duration. We are considering many options and are grateful that we have the resources to execute these measures with little disruption. We will keep our families updated and share relevant information as it is made available. Current state and CDC protocols and suggestions for staying healthy are included here.  Click here to continue reading.

More information can be found in the following areas:

As a follow up, we will be sending out an email to all WA families regarding this topic.

Raising Children to be Well Adjusted rather than Happy Adults
Click here to read a great article from the Boston Globe by Richard Weissbourd, a senior lecturer and co-director of the Human Development and Psychology Program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. This article is a great reflection on why we should teach our children how to care about other people to help them grow into well adjusted adults.
Thank Yous, Kudos and Reminders
Congratulations to the Shenoy Family on the birth of their baby girl!

Welcome back to Olivia Tracy and Spencer Durand who will be rejoining us next week. Olivia will be supporting the Infant room and Spencer will be staying on with us as a substitute. We are so VERY happy to have them back with us.

Special thank you to World Academy parent, Andrew Bussiere for his incredible support of the upcoming WA Alumni Association Comedy Night Fundraiser.

Many thanks to Grace Lutheran Church for being such special neighbors. We are grateful for all of their neighborly support.

Special thanks to our Alumni Board for their stellar support of the Alumni Basketball game and Comedy Show Fundraiser...also special thanks to Zeina Eyceoz, Coach Erik Congdon and Dr. Lisa Dias for their hard work in support of these as well!

Much gratitude to the judges of our Rube Goldberg and Invention Convention initiatives. You keep the bar high and our students performing at maximum levels!

Special kudos to Mary Hulfachor from our Guidance Department and the Kindness Club for the focus on kindness and tolerance that permeates all our school embraces and brings it to the front and center of what our school stands for.

Extra special thanks to:
Our stellar staff who have persevered every day through this persistent time of flu and illnesses to continue to give our students high quality experiences and the education all have come to expect from our “World!”;

Sri Sankar, our Assistant Principal, for all of her hard work and focus on Math excellence for our students. This has made our students mathematical thinkers and national scholars!;

Dan Hughes for his dedication to bringing robotics and engineering thinking to our entire school through our curriculum and especially to our gifted students who have excelled through the various clubs he supports!  It truly shows in their stellar performances!;

Coach Congdon who has taken a small school and made it a powerhouse in our community through dedication and training for our students. We have so many banners, championships and talented, consistent, well-rounded ball players to show for his efforts!;

   Mme Bronfine for encouraging native experiences for our World Language students by arranging the Quebec trip. It is an incredible immersion experience for our students!!;

Ellen Haight and Miri Shpindler for starting a Cubing Club in our Middle School;

 Our ECE Teachers for recognizing the value of ‘Risky Play’ and the 4 Cs (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication) to the growth and development of each individual child and his/her confidence in decision making, independence and social emotional competence. Their foundation in this will make them leaders in their futures!!;

AND to our Elementary, Middle School, and Enrichment Teams who stay on the cutting edge of information and brain-based teaching and learning research to keep our students in the foreground of their own education and learning. They are learning to be global citizens of tomorrow while they are driving their own education. This will serve them well in their personal decision-making and drive in their futures!
Thank you to donor, the Eyceoz Family , who made a donation in honor of their alumni, Aya and Mustafa!

This year,  the World Academy Alumni Association is celebrating the 40th year anniversary of the founding of World Academy by participating in a donation drive called "40 for 40"! Since 1980, the school has educated and nurtured over 20,000 students, and we would like to honor that accomplishment by paying tribute to the students, teachers, alumni and special memories from our “World!” We are aiming to attain 40 gifts in honor of the 40 years of excellence.  Please consider donating a gift of any amount to the WA Alumni Association . All gifts designated to the  “40 for 40” will go directly to the WA Alumni Association’s Scholarship Fund to support a quality World Academy education to even more deserving students.

Seen Around Our 'World'
We love to know what our students and families are up to outside of school! If you have something you would like to share, please don't hesitate to share it with us! Click here to email us your photos with details for us to post! We especially love to hear (and brag!) about student accomplishments outside of school! We love sharing ALL about each of our students!
Congratulations to Seventh Grader, Nick Dias and his Seacoast Spartans Hockey team who represented New Hampshire at the Pee Wee International Hockey Tournament in Quebec City, Canada last week! The team made it to the semi-finals in a competitive two-week tourney. Nick and his teammates had the unbelievable chance to play in front of a crowd of 10,000 people! He did us all proud and we see a fabulous future for him in the sport!
Toddler One enjoyed their Dr. Seuss theme this week by reading Fox In Sox and sharing their own crazy mix-matched socks at circle, as well as getting out in the nice weather to fly a kite after reading Oh, The Places You'll Go!
On Tuesday, the Preschool Fours Funky Monkeys learned all about Mardi Gras - why it is celebrated and what types of traditions come along with it.... like the masks! The students were then given a mask made out of a paper plate and popsicle stick to decorate with glitter stars, feathers, glittery poms poms, markers, glue and crayons! Laissez les bons temps rouler!!!
Children in our K-8 Vacation Program had a blast during their ‘Fun with Fitness’ themed week! Among many things they learned about the Native American tradition of dream catchers, discussed the importance of sleep and crafted their very own dream catchers! They also made their own special health conscious juices using carrots, zucchini, apples and oranges! Yum! In addition, they spent time being active doing yoga, climbing the rock wall in the gym, hiking at Roby Park and doing special age-appropriate fitness activities in every classroom! Check out the photos below to see for yourself just how much fun the Vacation Program Kids had with Mr. Michael, Miss Courtney, Miss Adrienne and to see the daily fun happening in ECE classrooms! Life was good at World Academy during the vacation week!! (Mother Nature even supported the fun with really nice weather!!)
Over the past week, Miss Bishop's Fifth Grade class finished their novel study of Wonder. Since then they have participated in a game called Scoot, which asks them to "scoot" around the room to respond to how they and others would feel in certain situations, or if certain comments or ideas could be considered empathy. Students are currently working on their endurance with emotions. The book Wonder asked them to explore and discuss the emotions of the characters, so they are now exploring their own emotions and how they can recognize and use them appropriately in various situations. More activities to come!
Have a great weekend!
