DearVolunteer,
You help us to instill hope, change lives, and brighten futures!
I hope the beginning of 2021 has brought hope to all of you! We have many amazing things happening right out of the gate in January!
While we’re of course looking forward to the return to hot meals we're incredibly proud of the fact that we've continued to serve Eastern Iowa seniors and we're so grateful for the volunteers that've made it possible!
We have some community events coming up where you can support Horizons' programs, local businesses, and have some fun! Read on for more information!
As always, please feel free to contact me at any time via email, phone or text! I am so glad to get to know you all!

Volunteer for Open
Meals on Wheels Route!
We need volunteers who are available to drive a regular route each week. We know many of you've been missing driving a route and we're excited to offer more opportunities, a flexible pick up time between 10-11 a.m., and smaller route sizes!
Tuesdays
OpenFrozen Meal Route:
SE Cedar Rapids.
Average of 8-10 stops.
Fridays
OpenCare Package Routes:
Hiawatha East, SW 2, Cherry Hill, Hawthorne Hills, Linwood, and Westdale 3.
These Friday routes are a part of our adapted Care Package initiative which delivers personal care items and cleaning supplies to our clients. These are short routes, averaging between 6-7 stops each, so an ambitious person could easily do two!
If you are interested in becoming a regular driver for one of these routes, give Kami a call at (319) 398-3943 or an email!
Food Truck February: Black-Owned
We're excited to support Black-Owned restaurants and food trucks each Thursday in February! We'll host Vivian’s Soul Food, Keeping Up with the Joneses Food Truck, and Willy Ray’s BBQ in-between volunteer shifts for easy purchase.
Sign up now for your a labeling and packing shifts to enjoy the amazing food and support our local Black-Owned businesses!
Volunteer Spotlight
Coady Sierra's been a regular food labeler and meal packer since the start of the pandemic in March! We love her can-do attitude and her witty sense of humor. Coady has gone above and beyond this month in organizing an event with her employer- Short’s Burger and Shine in Marion!
On Wednesday, January 20th, 15% of ALL sales including dine in, carry out, and drinks after 5 p.m. will go to Horizons' programs. So, stop by Short’s, say hi to Coady and give her a huge thank you for all she does!
