Volunteer Update
February 26, 2021
Dear CRC Volunteer,

Volunteering is not a one-way relationship. It is truly one of many beautiful examples of symbiosis in the world that I am happy to see play out each day. We hope that as each of you continue to give your time and compassion, specific skillsets and hard work to CRC, you also receive something back. It is said that volunteering can promote heart health, lower anxiety, and provide a sense of purpose. We hope that between this newsletter and the emails we send out, you feel our gratitude and know the role you play in our mission to provide healthy food, stable homes and safe relationships to our neighbors in need.

We are currently putting together a video “thank you” to our volunteers which will be ready in May. We need your help to tell the volunteer story of this past 11 months. Please send us photos of you or others doing volunteer work for CRC. If you have not been able to volunteer this year due to COVID concerns, we would love to see some photos of you at home, supporting us from afar!

Please also look for a survey to go out in early March for your feedback on the CRC Volunteer Program. Your answers can help shape future opportunities, appreciation events, and communication modes. We hope to hear from many of you.

In the meantime, this newsletter highlights just a few of the ways CRC Volunteers are making a difference in our organization and in the community this month!

Gratefully,

Sara Rosenbaum,
CRC Volunteer Manager
The Latest Volunteer News
Welcome back, Letitia and David Fleming!

Long-time volunteers (and 2019 Volunteers of the Year), David and Letitia Fleming are helping CRC launch the (ONLINE) Encinitas Senior Social Services Program. The Senior Social Services Program will provide Encinitas senior citizens 50 or older the opportunity to receive consultations and referrals with the goal leading to more self-sufficiency and enhanced quality of life. They will both be focusing on engaging with Encinitas senior citizens helping them with getting connected with our food programs, benefits, case management and resources. David will enroll and engage with new Encinitas seniors and Letitia will focus on our existing Encinitas senior clients, checking in on them and enrolling them in the program if they are in need of these resources. We are excited to have them back on the team as their positive energy was missed.
♥ Marketing Volunteers keeping count at the Resale Stores

Volunteers gave 2-3 hours of their time over a two-week period to count customers at our three Resale Stores. This valuable information will support our marketing plans for the stores. Resale Store profits provide up to 20% of our yearly revenue as we strive to fulfill our mission of supporting neighbors in need.

Want to support our Resale Stores? Consider becoming a Store Volunteer!

We are always looking for committed, high energy volunteers to receive donations, sort, clean and provide customer service when needed. Fill out an application here or contact Sara Rosenbaum for more information. You can also support the stores and our programs by shopping at one of our stores – giving back while also getting in some retail therapy!
Painting volunteers give fresh beginnings

Thank you once again to Adriana Bade and her team for stepping in to paint rooms at our Domestic Violence shelter. When asked why they provide ongoing support for the painting needs in our DV department, Adriana writes, “A fresh coat of paint symbolizes a new beginning for these families. Painting is a great way for our group to be productive, socialize and give back.”

Interested in supporting our Domestic Violence Shelter?

We are currently looking to fill a weekly or bi-monthly ongoing need providing simple cleaning and maintenance to our shelter grounds. Tasks could include: general upkeep, sweeping, picking up trash and landscape debris. Volunteers must be 18 or older and complete a background check (provided by CRC) and short interview (as the shelter location is confidential). If interested, please contact Sara Rosenbaum at srosenbaum@crcncc.org
Volunteer of the Month
Congratulations to Mary Cronin!
Nominated by Robert Pontier, Resale Store Manager

Mary is a volunteer in our Encinitas Resale Store on Mondays. Store Manager Robert Pontier shares: “Mary has been a great asset to our team this whole last year. She makes herself available to us if we ever need help. We have called her many times to help us on days we were short staffed in Encinitas. Mary always shows up and bolsters our staff. Mary is very personable, she works well with staff, volunteers and customers/donors. We are fortunate to have Mary volunteering with us."
