Valentine's Day Exchange (February 13)

Please bring in 26 signed Valentines (not individually addressed to classmates). Children who do not attend school on Fridays should bring their Valentines to school on Thursday, February 12th and will receive their Valentines on their next scheduled school day. All other students will deliver their Valentines on the 13th and take them home that day. Please encourage your child to either write or trace their name on the cards.

All about the Arctic and Antarctic

We've been learning all about the North and South Poles! Below are some questions to ask your child:



  • What notable animal lives in Antarctica? Penguins 
  • Can they fly? No. They swim instead.
  • What kind of animals are penguins, and how do you know? They are birds. They have feathers and lay eggs. 
  • Penguins gather in large groups - what are these called? Rookeries
  • Which are the tallest of all penguins? Emperor Penguins at four feet tall
  • When people travel through the snow, they sometimes build a temporary shelter rather than pitch a tent. What is it called and what is it made of? Igloos; snow & ice
  • How do people sometimes travel in the Arctic? Dog sled
  • What is the difference between glaciers and icebergs? Glaciers are mountains of ice. Icebergs are large pieces of ice floating in the ocean that break from the glaciers.
  • What beautiful lights can you see in the Arctic sky? Northern Lights or aurora borealis
  • How many seasons do they have in the Arctic and Antarctica? Two: Summer and Winter (6 months of daylight in the summer and 6 months of darkness in the winter.)
  • How many seasons do we have? Four: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall
