February Art
Sohier Room, Main Library
This month, the main library is hosting an exhibit by Carla Orr. Carla taps into others’ energy and draws it out, creating energy portraits. She believes that there are many different ways for people to connect to themselves and to heal, and encourages all to explore their creative center. Some portraits on display will include the sitters’ description of their energy portrait experience. Orr resides in Beverly and offers arts and healing workshops at the Ladies Entrance Holistic Art Studio . The exhibit is free and open to the public during regular library hours and when meetings or library programs are not in progress.

Children's Room
PLAY! Possibilities Learning And You!
We invite you to explore our new playful additions to the Children’s Room! Children are busy learning, playing, sharing, and creating at our new Drawing and Writing Center, Discovery Center, dramatic play area, baby area, and train table. Our first theme focuses on transportation and features a new collection of transportation books and lots of new vehicles to drive on our bright road rug. We will be adding new items and rotating activities to keep things lively and fresh. We will also be creating a cozy reading corner with chairs to snuggle up and share a book with your little one. The possibilities for learning are endless when children play!

Highlights:
Roll & Race! Activity Ramp at our Discovery Center
Explore motion, friction, cause and effect, and more with a two-lane activity ramp that brings STEM concepts to life! After placing a textured path on each side of the wooden ramp children can compare how the different textures affect the speed and momentum of rolling objects. Race two cars down the textured path and predict which car will win!

Train Table
Our new train table, that is just the right size for little train conductors, is a big hit! Children are engaging in cooperative play as they work together to build different railroad track patterns and race new trains over bridges and through tunnels.

PLAY! Possibilities, Learning And You! is brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
