Rutherford Public Library
February Newsletter
Happy February everyone! We have many exciting events coming up at the library this month, and programs are taking place in person and virtually. This month is a great time to stop by and check out some of our newest items as the new year begins.

As a reminder, masks are strongly recommended for all visitors and required at in-person children's programs. For everyone's safety, we ask that if you are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, please reschedule your visit until you are feeling better.

If you still feel unsafe entering our building, we continue to offer our Grab & Go doorside pickup service. Please fill out the forms online or call us at 201-939-8600 for assistance.

If you do come in the building but are still social distancing, we encourage you to check out items using our MeeScan kiosk or app, which you can do by yourself. For more information, click here.

We want to thank our community again for your support and cooperation as we still continue to navigate this time. Thank you for continuing to work with us throughout all these changes, and meeting us wherever we are -- on the screen, through the door, or inside!

LIBRARY NEWS
Rutherford Public Library is proud to offer virtual tutoring to our cardholders through Brainfuse. Each year, Brainfuse allows participating libraries to nominate up to two high school students for consideration in their national contest, the Elize Aunahn Memorial Brainfuse Scholarship. Two national winners will receive $4,000 to help fund their attendance in a post-secondary technical training program, community college, or 4-year bachelor's program.

High school juniors and seniors residing in Rutherford may apply now for submission to the national contest. Two students will be chosen to move onto the final round based on financial need, work ethic, and community/extracurricular involvement. To apply, fill out our brief application by March 1, 2022! Good Luck!

Borrow a Wi-Fi Hotspot
The Rutherford Public Library has mobile wi-fi hotspot devices available to borrow. Hotspots provide an Internet connection so you can use your smartphone, tablet or computer without using data. These are great for our patrons (who are Rutherford residents and age 18 and up) who may not have their own internet connection at home or have lost their home connection temporarily, and even for travel throughout the domestic US. Hotspots can be taken out for two weeks at a time. One per household. To reserve a hotspot, click here.
Our Databases page on our website has been renamed the Virtual Reference page, as it has ebooks, news and more in addition to databases. Click here to see what we are offering digitally. And please note we are now providing access to the following:
Black Life in America Database
The Rutherford Public Library is proud to announce it is providing a digital access to the database Black Experience in America for Rutherford cardholders. This primary source collection offers an expansive window into centuries of African American history, culture and daily life—as well as the ways the dominant culture has been portrayed and perceived.
To access, go to our Virtual References page, and select "General Research"!
Mango Languages Available Now
Rutherford Library cardholders will now have access to Mango Languages, on the library computers and remotely through our website!

Mango Languages is a language learning software with an easy to navigate interface and many different languages to pick from. Library patrons will be able to access the courses by going to the “Adult Services” tab, selecting "Online Resources", and clicking on "Foreign Language & ESL".

From there simply scroll down and click “Mango Languages” and create an account to start learning a new language!
