2017 Foundation Highlights
WE WERE PLEASED to work with charitable individuals, families, and organizations last year to make a significant impact on our community and its nonprofits - and we look forward to even more positive results in 2018!

Assets: $603 million at year-end - the highest ever in our history!

Grantmaking: $46.3 million was granted to charitable causes, $2.9 million of which was in Community Grants to local nonprofits

New Funds: 100 new charitable funds were established, and $156 million was added to new and existing funds

Student Aid Applications Now Being Accepted
DO YOU KNOW local students who need help paying for college? Last year we awarded almost $1,000,000 in student aid thanks to the generosity of donors in our community. The deadline for most merit-based scholarships is April 1!

Giving Matters:
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017
RECENT FEDERAL TAX LEGISLATION is changing how many people are donating to nonprofits. Here are a few responsive strategies we're seeing:

• “bundling” gifts through a donor-advised fund to use the charitable deduction in some years and take the standard deduction in others (Here's an informative article in the Wall Street Journal about donor-advised funds.)

• donating appreciated stock or other assets to avoid capital gains

• using the required minimum distribution from an IRA , which allows income exclusion for those who are 70-½ or older (Note: charitable rollovers cannot be made to donor-advised funds.)

Contact us at (336)725-2382 to discuss your charitable giving options. As always, personal circumstances vary, and we recommend consulting a financial professional for tax planning decisions.

Their latest project is called TechCareers2020, a collaboration with Forsyth Tech and NCWorks, in which they will be training unemployed and underemployed adults for careers in the high-tech workplace.
