Tides Night

We'd like to offer a special thanks to the Alliance of Heroic Hearts, Twinkling Tiara Parties and Twinkle Toes Dance Studio for making February Tides Nights extra special! Children enjoyed both Superhero and Wizard of Oz theme nights thanks to these organizations, Tides volunteers and Tides participants. These special nights added some sparkle to February!

School Programming

February's School Programming included some awesome activities to help students cope and process grief. These activities included:

  • "About Me" Folders - Each student decorated a folder with stickers, markers, and googly eyes to share a bit about themselves and the person they lost with the group to get to know each other.
  • Growing Tree - An activity that helped children and teens visualize where their grief journey began, where it is and where they hope it comes to.
  • Emotional 4 Corners - We labeled each corner of the room with either happy, sad, angry or all mixed up. With different question prompts, each child would walk to the corresponding corner that reflected the emotion in terms of the prompt. This helps the children to realize that these feelings are normal and they are not alone.
  • Valentine's craft - children drew or wrote valentines to loved ones who have passed. Starting with a piece of paper with one large heart on it, we wrote or drew different words, objects, or symbols inside that fill our hearts in honor of the people who we have lost. This is a reminder that especially on holidays lost loved ones are still in our hearts!

Community Connections

This month, Evelyn connected with several community groups to offer various services including: Center for Community Resources, State of the Story, Bald Eagle Area School District and Centre Helps.

Save the Dates

Grief Matters is an educational seminar taking place on May 1 at Calvary Harvest Fields, bringing together professionals and community members who support grieving children and families. This year’s theme, “The Ripple Effect: Supporting the Whole System When a Child Grieves,” explores how loss impacts not only the child, but families, schools, and communities. Presenters from the Highmark Caring Place and the Fred Rogers Institute will share insight, tools and practical strategies to help create compassionate, connected support systems for children navigating grief.
