Resident Services Impact Statement: 2022

We are humbled to share just some of the work that APAH’s resident services team accomplished last year. None of it would be possible without the philanthropic support of our donors and sponsors. Thank you for believing in our residents and supporting our programs. The impact you made possible is immeasurable.

But the most important thing to recognize is that our work is never done. We have plans to build and grow many of these programs in 2023, plus add new opportunities for the households we serve.

“We’re proud to bring new affordable homes to Loudoun County, and marking the occasion with our partners is truly special,” said Carmen Romero, APAH President and CEO at the grand opening ceremony.

The property is APAH's first in Loudoun County and first with a senior designation, highlighting APAH's efforts to meet diverse affordable housing needs in the D.C. Metro region.

APAH's Resident Services Staff at Loudoun View: Meet Kelley and Quinten

Quinten and Kelley at the Loudoun View Senior Residences grand opening celebration.

At Loudoun View Senior Residences, there are two dedicated resident services staff who work to support the residents who call the property home.

We sat down with Kelley and Quinten, APAH’s on-site staff at Loudoun View, to discuss senior needs, current programming, and their hopes for the future.

Residents tell me, “if I don’t have the means, like a laptop, internet, or login, to apply to a program or service, I just stop trying,” Kelley shared. "We show residents that we are here to help."

Mike Chiappa, Senior Vice President of Real Estate at APAH, was selected by Leadership Fairfax as a 2023 Northern Virginia 40 Under 40 honoree.

We're closer to meeting regional affordable housing targets thanks to Mike's leadership. Please join us in congratulating him!

When is the Next Computer Class?!

Computer class participants including, Ted Hicks, APAH Board Member and resident. (white shirt).

Many of APAH’s senior residents have self-identified technology as a consistent obstacle in accessing support services.

Spreading the Love on Valentine's Day

During the week of Valentine’s Day, APAH hosted events across its portfolio to ‘spread the love’ and build community among residents.

From “K&Q’s Diner” at Loudoun View, where the community room was transformed into a buffet style restaurant, to APAH’s annual Intergenerational Valentine’s Day event, where children made cards for seniors then delivered them door-to-door with balloons and candy, it was a festive week.

Residents enjoyed spending time with their neighbors and APAH staff.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Support APAH's "Rock & Read" Program for Youth

APAH properties are home to more than 1,800 kids under age 18.

APAH’s programs and resources support families in academics, health, and community relationships. To kick off literacy programs in 2023, APAH invites 25 second through eighth graders to attend a "Rock & Read" marathon.

APAH in the Community

APAH celebrated Black History Month in several ways this month.

As part of APAH’s Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI) work, staff participated in a guided walking tour, titled Freedom’s Fight in Alexandria, to learn about African American history and cultural heritage in the city.

Additionally, APAH hosted educational youth programming to highlight Black History Month.

In January, a property-wide essay contest was held among grade-school residents, in honor of MLK Jr. Day.

Nearly 50 essays were submitted, across the 3 age groups: elementary, middle, and high school. Contestants answered the prompt, “I Have A Dream.”

This month, APAH hosted a celebration for everyone who participated. Congratulations to all!

On February 1st, Policy and Project Manager, Brian Goggin, advocated for affordable housing investments at the state level as part of the Virginia Housing Alliance’s (VHA) Housing Advocacy Day.

Brian Goggin, along with Jill Norcross (NVAHA), Jennifer Endo (AHC), and other representatives from VHA meet with State Senator Barbara Favola during the 2023 General Assembly.
