In This Issue:

Dear Friend of the House,

This spring, hope and growth will be evident as we begin to realize our dream of expanding our House. Recognizing the many, many families on our waiting list every night, the City of Palo Alto has unanimously approved plans for a 52,000 square foot expansion right next door to our existing House. When construction is complete, Ronald McDonald House at Stanford will provide a home-away-from-home for 120 families every night.

Next month, you will see the first physical signs of growth as we prepare the land on Sand Hill Road where the expansion will be built. Soon after, an enormous tent will be erected on the site; this is where this spring's premiere event, the House Party! Groundbreaking Gala will take place. Around the same time, we intend to launch the public phase of our Hope is Growing capital campaign to raise funds for this critical expansion project.

This spring promises to be both busy and spectacular as we begin to lay the groundwork for our brighter future. I encourage everyone in our community to get involved in this worthy endeavor in whatever way you can-by making a donation, volunteering your time and talents, or donating goods and services.

Together, we can provide hope, comfort, and care to every family with a child being treated for a life threatening illness at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Thank you for helping hope grow.

Warm regards,

Laura Boudreau

Strength in Numbers - The Santoya Family
Monadella Santoya and her daughter Genevieve.
A devoted mother of six, Monadella (Mona) is a pro when it comes to managing the inevitable coughs and colds her children develop. However, when her youngest, Genevieve, then only six months old, began having difficulty breathing, Mona knew something was terribly wrong and began searching for answers.

At first, their family pediatrician diagnosed Genevieve with asthma and prescribed steroids and a nebulizer to ease her symptoms. Despite the treatments, Genevieve's condition continued to rapidly deteriorate.

One night, little Genevieve began vomiting severely and was laboring to breathe. Mona rushed Genevieve to the ER at a large hospital in nearby Portland, Oregon, where the baby was immediately whisked away for further examination. Read more.

Every day, Ronald McDonald House at Stanford offers accommodation, programs, and support to families with critically ill children receiving medical care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Please help us continue to realize our mission of providing a home-away-from-home environment for the Santoyas and other families by making a donation or becoming a House volunteer.

Jennifer Betz - Committed to the Cause
Jennifer Betz,
 Special Programs Volunteer
At a young age, Jennifer Betz learned the value and joy of community service while volunteering alongside her family in her hometown of Tacoma, WA. That dedication to helping others grew throughout her teens and into her college years as Jennifer continued to volunteer while a student at Santa Clara University.

After graduation, Jennifer decided to stay in the Bay Area to pursue a career in finance, and soon settled into the busy routine of a young professional.

Despite her intense focus on her new career, volunteering was never far from Jennifer's mind. Finding the right fit, however, wasn't easy-she needed to find a volunteer position she could really believe in.
