Wellness Update: February is the month of love – take care of your heart!
Brought to you by TCA Wellness Committee Member Mary Renn

According to the American Heart Association, “nearly half of U.S. adults suffer from some form of cardiovascular disease.” What steps are you taking to improve your heart health?

Here are a few prevention tips:
  • Eat well-balanced meals – know what you are putting into your body. Portion control and choosing the right foods can be challenging. An easy way to achieve this is to pre-plan your meals. This will prevent you from making unhealthy choices when you are in a rush.
  • Get moving – make it a goal to work in some physical activity into your daily schedule and commit to it.
  • Manage your stress – really take time each day to do something that brings you joy. You can begin by trying deep breathing exercises, yoga, meditation and/or mindfulness activities.
  • Become familiar with your family background – share your familial history with your doctor during your yearly checkups.
