E-Newsletter: February 2024

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

We know that 1 in 3 U.S. teens will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from a romantic partner before becoming adults.

That's why we participate in Teen Domestic Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM), a month-long effort that focuses on advocacy and education for teens and young adults to stop dating abuse before it starts.

This year’s theme, Love Like That, illuminates what “that” means regarding relationships. No matter how you define "that", it’s important that you’re on the same page with your partner.

Several of our staff members participated in #WearOrange4LoveDay, a day dedicated to wearing orange to spread awareness. Our Gala honorees, CBIZ and Karen Conicelli of the Three Little Angels Foundation, also proudly wore orange to spark conversations within their own homes and networks.

Three 2024 Submissions

In partnership with Victim Services Center of Montgomery County, we are also bringing back the Shifting Spaces Art Show! The Shifting Spaces Student Art Contest gives students a platform to spread positive messages that promote healthy relationships, influence their community to value consent, equality, respect, safety, and honesty, and help prevent teen dating violence and sexual assault through art.

We're so grateful to the Middle and High School Students from all across Montgomery County for submitting powerful works of sculpture, digital art, paintings, and so much more! We invite you to join us on Thursday, February 22, at 6:30 PM for the showcase!

Beyond raising awareness for TDVAM, our staff continue to educate themselves to best serve survivors of abuse.

Our Safe Haven Center staff and DART staff at Laurel House recently participated in a training on filing electronic Protection From Abuse orders (PFAs) at the courthouse. We continue to make sure our staff is up-to-date on all the best practices to serve our clients in the county.

Thank You for a Successful Lager Launch!

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us earlier this month for the Laurel House Lager launch! Thanks to your incredible support, you helped us raise over $1,700 to support survivors of domestic violence! We also were blown away by the abundance of Wish List item donations.

We're so grateful to our friends at Ten7 Brewing Company and Breweries In PA for making this collaboration possible. Through this collaboration, we hope to raise awareness about the pervasive nature of domestic violence and empower individuals to intervene when they encounter situations that may jeopardize someone’s safety, whether it be in a bar, workplace, or another setting where intervention can make a life-saving impact.
