Good Afternoon, Friends –
The Admissions Team and staff here at Little Flower welcomed nearly 100 families and prospective students to an in-person Open House event we had on Sunday, 1/24/21. It was such a joy to have guests in the building and to celebrate the true experience of being at Little Flower. We are grateful to the parent and student ambassadors, faculty and staff who assisted with this event. Right now LF is pacing 15 registrations ahead of this time last year and our arms are open wide to welcoming prospective transfers. We are humbled and grateful to partner with you to make sure that you continue to spread the good word about the highest quality and most affordable high school option in southeastern Pennsylvania for deserving young women.
I am writing to share that Little Flower is thrilled to host two wonderful guest events in celebration of Black History Month. On Tuesday Feb 9, 1:04-1:50 we have the male Catholic Gospel Choir "God's Men" and soloist Jennifer Allen coming to sing. Both performed for the MLK prayer service that was held at St. Dorothy’s Church in Drexel Hill on 1/15/21 and brought the house down. They are directed by Tonya Taylor Dorsey, who is starting to offer Music Workshops for our girls with a view to starting a Gospel Choir at Little Flower. Tonya, by the way, is beginning workshops for our students on Tuesdays at 2:40p.m. The workshop asks students to write music, poetry or spoken word so it crosses genres. Kids don't have to actually sing. Please let me or Colette Weber, our Principal, know and we’ll send you the zoom link to the workshop. The God’s Men presentation will be livestreamed via Facebook.
On February 10, 2021 at 8a.m. or thereabouts, we are finally getting to celebrate our Catholic Schools’ Week Mass. At the conclusion of Mass, we’ll be dedicating the official portrait of longtime Little Flower Principal, Sr. Kathleen Klarich, RSM, who served in that capacity for 26 years.
The other event is a male Gospel Rapper, Micha Jackson, on Tuesday February 23, 1:55-2:40. While nothing replaces the experience of being in the room for these performances and events, all will be livestreamed for everyone to view.
Stay strong and stay safe.
In gratitude –

NEW PROGRAM FROM THE SUCCESS CENTER
The Great Books program has been in existence for over 50 years. The goals are many, including appreciation for great literature, increased reading comprehension and participation in the shared inquiry method of learning.
This process is an active and collaborative search for answers to questions of meaning about a text. It is a research-supported method of learning that promotes deeper thinking through reading, discussion, and writing. Shared Inquiry enables teachers to work with students in an exciting intellectual partnership through a range of interpretive activities that stimulate students’ thinking. The Shared Inquiry approach develops students’ reading comprehension, critical thinking, and communication skills in the context of thinking about genuine problems of meaning raised by a rich work of literature.
Rooted in the Socratic method, Shared Inquiry is distinct in its focus on high-quality texts and the participation of a trained leader who helps participants arrive at their own well-reasoned interpretations of the text. There are a variety of ways to implement Great Books programs, but Shared Inquiry always involves close reading, questions, collaboration, and reflective thinking.
Students would gather one afternoon a week after classes to participate.

Little Flower is committed to improving how our students seek out tutoring opportunities at our school. We believe asking for help and attending tutoring sessions should occur throughout the course of study, not just when one is trying to pass a test or remedy a failing grade. Seeking support from your sisters can occur at any time and will improve one's confidence in her overall educational experience.

Round 2 will be this Wednesday evening. We are grateful to Temple LEAP and the PA Bar Young Lawyers Division for continuing to sponsor this activity during the pandemic. The cases will be tried on Zoom in a manner similar to which the real city and state courts are holding session.
Our team extends heartfelt thank yous to alumnae Kate McGrath, Esq., our legal counsel, motivational speaker and friend, and Alexis Tschanz, our performance coach, who have shared immeasurable talent and time working with us.
The team scrimmaged Springfield Township High School in early January, and the Honorable Kate McGill from Montgomery County shared her time and expertise in presiding over the trial.
