Update on Cannabis stores coming to Brampton
As early as April 1, 2019, privately-owned cannabis stores could open in Brampton. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Private cannabis stores will be licensed and regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Six stores have been initially allocated for the GTA region.
  • The stores will need to observe a minimum distance of 150 metres from schools. Areas in Brampton currently zoned to allow retail establishments are highlighted on this map
  • Upon receiving a store application, AGCO will facilitate a mandatory 15-day public notification period of the proposed store location. The public can provide comments or concerns via the AGCO portal.
  • Retailers are not permitted to allow anyone under the age of 19 to enter their stores.
  • Smoking recreational cannabis in Brampton is legal where tobacco consumption is permitted under the Smoke Free Ontario Act. For complaints about illegal use of cannabis, call 311. [more...]
