Winter: Learn to Knit Class
Tuesdays, Feb. 3rd to Mar. 24th
Registration Required - Limited to 8 spots
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Periodical Room
Whether you are an experienced knitter in need of some help or have never picked up needles before, this class is for you! New knitters will learn basic stitches, how to read a pattern, and how to choose yarn, and will then complete a pair of mittens. Just need a refresher, or help getting through a difficult part of a pattern? Bring whatever you're working on, and we'll tackle it together.
You can also get help making the leap from simple projects to more complex projects like sweaters, hats, and Christmas stockings, as well as working with charts and multiple colors at once. Beginners should bring one pair of size 5, 6, or 7 straight needles (aluminum or bamboo) and one skein of midweight (worsted weight) yarn in a light color to the first class.
If you sign up for any events and find that you are unable to attend, we kindly ask you to notify the library. This will allow us to offer your spot to another patron who may be waiting for an opening.
Thanks to the Friends of the Library for sponsoring this 8-week learning course.

Sally Snowman, the last USCG Keeper of Light
Thursday, Feb.12th
Registration Required
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Join us for a virtual historical event centered on Boston Light, the first lighthouse established in colonial America. It began providing guidance on safe navigation into Boston's growing maritime port in 1716. Today, the Fresnel lens in the lantern room and the fog signal apparatus on Little Brewster Island at the entrance to Boston Harbor continue to serve as active aids to navigation, maintained by the Coast Guard.
Recently, Boston Light's reputation as "the last manned Coast Guard light station" in the country has come to an end with the retirement of Sally Snowman, its 70th keeper. We will present a PowerPoint featuring photos that highlight Boston Light's 307-year history, along with anecdotes from Sally's experiences as a 21st-century keeper.

(How to Avoid) Death in Glacier National Dark
Thursday, Feb. 23rd
Registration Required
2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Adventures in the wilderness can be dramatic—and sometimes deadly. Glacier National Park's death records date back to January 1913, when a man tragically froze to death while snowshoeing between Cut Bank and St. Mary. Over the park's first hundred years, a total of 260 people has died or are presumed to have died there. These stories include a man who fell into a crevasse on East Gunsight Peak while skiing its steep north face, and another who lost his life while biking on the Sun Road under the moonlight.
In this engaging virtual presentation, Randi, the author of eight books in the non-fiction "Death in the National Parks" series, takes us on a journey through the tragic mistakes people make when venturing into the wilderness. This collection features some of the most gripping accounts from park history, along with new stories of individuals who have succumbed to the forces of nature or their own misjudgments.
