Staff Update: Welcome Kurt Du Bois!
We are pleased to announce the hiring of Kurt Du Bois in the position of Events & Officials Coordinator.  Kurt is a graduate of the Sports Business Management program at Algonquin College in Ottawa. He comes to FHBC from the National Sport Organization (NSO) environment where he held the position of National Program and Events Management Assistant for Diving Plongeon Canada. Kurt has always had a passion for sports, playing rugby and soccer competitively throughout University. He is looking forward to getting involved with the field hockey community and becoming familiar with a new province.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our outgoing staff member, Kathryn Pohran for everything she has done for our organization over the last two and a half years. She was a great asset to our team and will be missed. We wish Kathryn all the best in her future endeavours.
Field Hockey Shack 2017 Spring Clean
The Field Hockey Shack is currently clearing-out the last of its remaining 2016 stock, until March 12th. If you're looking for some awesome deals on new equipment, make sure you pop into their West Vancouver store to get some awesome deals.

Upcoming Provincial & Umpire Assessors Courses
We are holding a Provincial Umpiring Course on March 1st & 8th in Delta. The course is being held at the South Delta Rec Center at 6:30pm on both days. New Umpires are welcome to attend as long as they are familiar with Field Hockey. The deadline to register for this course is tomorrow (February 23rd)!

We are also holding an Umpire Assessors Course on Sunday March 5th in Vancouver. The classroom portion of the course is being held from 10am to 12pm at the Field Hockey BC Office. The practical portion of the course is being held at Eric Hamber starting at 12:45pm. The deadline to register for the Assessors Course is Tuesday, February 28th.

NCCP Coaching Courses offered in Vancouver
The Vancouver Hawks, in association with Field Hockey BC, are running two NCCP Coaching Courses beginning next week. They are offering a Fundamentals Coaching Course and a Learn 2 Train Coaching Course. Both courses will be run over four evening sessions: from 6-9pm on Tuesday February 28th, Thursday March 2nd, Tuesday March 7th & Thursday March 9th. The Tuesday night sessions will take place at the FHBC Office in Vancouver and the Thursday night sessions will take place at a field or gym, to be determined. 

These Coaching Courses are available to anyone that is interested. The deadline to register is Monday February 27th. Registration can be completed online. Register for the Fundamentals Coaching Course or for the Learn 2 Train Coaching Course now!
Registration for the 2017 VIT is now open!
Registration for the 2017 Vancouver International Tournament (VIT) is now open. The annual tournament will take place on May 19th - 22nd at the Burnaby Lake West Complex. There are five divisions available for registration this year: Men's Social, Mixed, Women's Competitive, Women's Masters & Women's Social Divisions. 

The deposit deadline to secure your team's spot is March 17th. The final entry deadline is April 13th. 


2017 Field Hockey BC Annual General Meeting
The 2017 Field Hockey BC Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday February 18th at the Howard Johnson Hotel & Suites in Victoria. 

Thank you to those that gave up their time to participate in the meeting.


Congratulations to David Jameson on a great career!
David Jameson officially announced his retirement from the Men's National Team last month. The Vancouver native has dedicated the last 14 years of his life to representing Canada at the international level. During his career, David competed at  4 Pan American Games, 3 Commonwealth Games and 1 World Cup. He is a former Junior member and a current Senior member of the Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club, played for the UBC Men's team, competed for Team BC in his youth and adult life, and represented Canada at the Junior and Senior level. He has also given his time to Field Hockey BC as a coach, a volunteer and can even be found as a model on the outside of our FHBC Van!

Congratulations again Dave.

Haughn Nominated for University Athlete of the Year
Congratulations to Hannah Haughn on being nominated for University Athlete of the Year at the Sport BC 51st Athlete of the Year Awards!

Hannah joined the Women's National Team in 2011 at the age of 17 and has grown into one of the leaders on the field. This year, she wrapped up her fifth season as a University of British Columbia Thunderbird by winning her fifth straight National Title! She has already had a very successful field hockey career and she is only 22 years old.

Winners of the Sport BC 51st Athlete of the Year Awards will be honoured at a ceremony on March 8th. Good luck Hannah!
