HSC Housing Navigator Sarah first met Lori in December of 2020 when she entered the Safe Outdoor Space (SOS), HSC's former resource-based encampment for unsheltered individuals. Lori utilized Homeless ID Project to obtain identification documents while in the SOS Lots. When the SOS lots began closing down, HSC moved Lori over to the Project 8 Bridge Housing program while working on her housing plan. During Lori's stay with HSC in the bridge program, we assisted her with filling out an application with Native American Connections (NAC) to receive permanent supportive housing.
As of February 15, Lori signed a lease and received a key to her apartment at NAC’s Stepping Stones! HSC provided a check for her move-in expenses, and St. Vincent de Paul provided a check for her entire years’ worth of rent. HSC provided Kroger gift cards to buy groceries for her new apartment, and with NAC provided her with move-in essentials.
This weekend Lori will be able to cook a meal in her own home for her three daughters and her two grandchildren after successfully ending her homelessness that lasted since May 2019. Examples like this are why HSC and our partners work with clients who previously seemed "unreachable". Time, consistency, and patience can and do change lives!
Thank you for supporting Lori’s move from Street to Home.
