VOLUME 3. ISSUE 13.
Welcome to Carpe Datum’s Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 13) newsletter and greetings from Washington, D.C. – clearly not quiet Asbury Park, but since we’re focused on Data and Analytics and not composing classic lyrics, like “Is a dream a lie if it don't come true … Or is it something worse”, we shall proceed. This newsletter strives to strike a balance between general news and developments in the world of Data & Data Analytics, as well as actual, brand-new contracting opportunities for those services within the U.S. Federal Government (the world’s largest consumer of such products and services). So, please dive in and make those dreams of new business revenue come true!

As always, please share our newsletter with anyone you think might enjoy it and derive some from value from it – we love expanding the community and firmly believe in the power of the network - Click here to sign-up

  • Request for Information (RFI) – Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Data Acquisition Requirements  – The purpose of this notice is to acquire information from the health care and public health surveillance industries providing large, customized healthcare related data sets or data access platforms to researchers, evaluators, and public health program specialists. The ability to provide individual and customized data products that include: Electronic Health Records (inpatient, outpatient and/or emergency) representing visits to U.S. physicians that include details on prescriptions written, and dispensed, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, immunizations, medical imaging, testing (laboratory, microbial, and other types of testing to detect a condition, determine a diagnosis, plan treatment, or monitor treatment or condition over time) and prescriptions.

In other data news, on March 2nd, Federal News Network published an interesting article/interview entitled, A new set of priorities for the State Department means good data will be in high demand. In this article, the author, Tom Temin, describes how just prior to the change in administrations, the State Department appointed a new chief data officer. Presuming the Biden State Department wants to use data to inform its decisions, the new CDO will be quite busy. In fact, Matthew Graviss, State’s new CDO, describes below his four fundamental approaches to most effectively use and deploy data:

  • “All three of those things are really important – the culture side, the data management side, and the technology piece, all bringing to bear an opportunity to leverage analytics. You can’t really do one without the other. And I think what’s cool about the State Department is that within the Center for Analytics, which I lead, as they designed the Center for Analytics out, all three of those are under one roof, along with an analytics team to go provide integrated services. And so that was really exciting and intriguing to me as I as I joined the team."
