Welcome to Carpe Datum’s Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 8) newsletter. Thank you all for not only opening but also reading at least one item in last week’s newsletter – because of your interest and willingness to explore all aspects of our weekly newsletter, we have set new “personal bests” in all relevant metrics!
Thus, if the spirit so moves you, please reply to this email with any suggestions to make our rag more readable. In the coming months, we have every intention of testing new business models that enable us to continue our unabashed coverage of all things data, data analytics, and government opportunities and how those matters collide, coalesce and co-exist. Never pretty, always clumsy, but frequently very effective when it's all said and done.

Request for Information (RFI) for Common Operating Platform Supporting Federated Data Management and Operational Decision-Making at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) – VA currently has the Palantir Foundry SaaS solution, which underpins its current COP capability. VA seeks a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution that provides the COP operational decision support capability. Ability to support management and curation of our data assets in a coordinated and collaborative fashion, to develop an authoritative integration and democratized (with security and other data policy) access as needed to support mission and business requirements. VA’s current solution enables analysis of data as it relates to the effective and efficient delivery of VA products and services and assessments of risks and issues that have a current or potential nexus to VA’s COVID-19 planning, preparedness and response.
- “The newly published research is likely to bring fresh scrutiny to how ordinary smartphone apps are harvesting and selling vast amounts of personal data on millions of Americans, often without the user’s explicit consent. Several federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service and Homeland Security, are under investigation by government watchdogs for buying and using location data from various data brokers without first obtaining a warrant. Last week it emerged that intelligence analysts at the Defense Intelligence Agency buy access to commercial databases of Americans’ location data.”
