VOLUME 4. ISSUE 10.
Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 4, Issue 10) -- the only publication dedicated exclusively to Data and Analytics companies, who share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Over the last two weeks, your partners at Carpe Datum have noticed a marked increase in the overall volume of relevant activity coming from our marketplaces – both in the form of qualified government contracting opportunities, as well as germane news stories and industry announcements. Please take a close look and make your own assessment. As always, send us a note if there is anything that you have questions about or if you’d simply like to give us some feedback – we’re all ears (and eyes)!

  • Request for Information (RFI) – United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (RFS) – IDEAL WSSH Activity – USAID is conducting market research … on how improving data use can also advance equity by directing resources to the most vulnerable communities. USAID’s Digital Strategy highlights the opportunity to “improve measurable development… outcomes through the responsible use of digital technology in USAID’s Programming”. The strategy further notes that approaches such as prioritizing investments through geospatial analysis are essential to making development more effective and efficient; likewise, the WSSH data landscape has grown dramatically with new monitoring efforts, new data collection approaches, emerging data standards, and more frequent data sharing between institutions.

In other data news, on February 10th, Daily Dot published an interesting article entitled, A new bill might force data brokers to delete everything they have on you.  In this article, Andrew Wyrich describes how a newly introduced data privacy bill wants to make it easier for consumers to delete all the information that data brokers have collected about them.

  • “Specifically, the bill would direct the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to create an online dashboard where Americans could submit a one-time request that all data brokers delete information that’s been collected about them. The data brokers, who would have to register with the FTC, would have 31 days to delete the data. The bill was introduced by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), and Rep. Lori Trahan (D-Mass.) The law defines a data broker as ‘an entity that knowingly collects or obtains the personal information of an individual with whom the entity does not have a direct relationship’ that then uses that information to perform a service for a third party or ‘sells, licenses, trades, provides for consideration or is otherwise compensated’ for giving that information to a third party. ”
