Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 4, Issue 19) which happens to be the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies who share our passion for serving the Public Sector. This week’s hottest topic appears to be supply chain analytics & assessments. In this issue, one of our two featured items is a technology solution ("tool") that the Census Bureau is researching in order to analyze global trade data for policy-making purposes; meanwhile, closer to home, the GSA appears to be conducting their own supply chain assessments on the relative risks associated with contractors who use their schedules/marketplaces to sell into the Public Sector. Both features are excellent examples of data & analytics in action … Robomod waits for no one!   Also, if you can, please take a moment to share our newsletter with anyone whom you think might find it useful and/or interesting - Click here to subscribe.   Request for Information (RFI) – The U.S. Census Bureau (USCB), in support of the Economic Indicators Division (EID) – U.S. Census Bureau: Trade Data Tool - seeking information on how an interested in an international trade data tool that provides users access to current, and cumulative, U.S. export and import data. The tool shall assist different types of customers from a wide range of industries and shall assist governments and federal agencies in analyzing domestic and international trade policies. This data tool shall allow users to create customized reports and colorful visualizations detailing international trade data at multiple levels.    In other data news, on April 14th, the Federal News Network published an interesting article entitled, Supply chain assessment identifies 200,000 products ‘of concern’ in fed marketplace. In this article, Justin Doubleday describes how the General Services Administration has identified about 200,000 products “of concern” over the past year through a supply chain risk assessment aimed at unearthing threats in the millions of products GSA offers to agencies through its marketplace.    “The agency worked with the identified companies to get information about their supply chains, but also used data from federal “threat intelligence,” as well as open-source information. The factors GSA considers when evaluating supply chain threats include foreign ownership, foreign sources of material and cybersecurity risks, according to Sonny Hashmi, commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) … a GSA spokeswoman said the supply chain assessment Hashmi referred to is called a “Robomod,” as it uses “data analytics and automated acquisition processes to remove products from multiple contracts at the same time.” The Carpe Datum Team
