VOLUME 3. ISSUE 20.
Welcome to Carpe Datum’s Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 20) newsletter. With nearly 100 days in office, the Biden Administration continues to be very focused on the COVID-19 response and recovery efforts, which appears to be paying some dividends; however, many folks are wondering about what comes next? Time will tell, but your team at Carpe Datum believes that with a significant focus being placed on the technological modernization of the federal IT infrastructure, increased demands for cybersecurity and identity management services, as well as the advancement of artificial intelligence/machine learning and quantum computing, we are all very well positioned for success within the Data & Data Analytics industries. Giddy up!

In other data news, on April 19th, The Hill published an interesting article entitled, Pressure mounts on DHS to stop using Clearview AI facial recognition.  In this article, Chris Hill Rodrigo describes how pressure is mounting on the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to discontinue — or at least clarify — its relationship with Clearview AI, a controversial facial recognition company best known for scraping billions of images of people from social media sites.

  • “The National Institute of Standards and Technology, a federal agency within the Commerce Department, released an expansive study of voluntarily submitted facial recognition systems in 2019 that found the majority of them have “demographic differentials” that can worsen their accuracy based on a person’s age, gender or race. Clearview has not participated in any of those tests."
