Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies that share our passion for serving the Public Sector. Our featured items begin with the Transportation Security Administration's (TSA) innovative application of business information to secure the Nation's air cargo supply chain. Although a sole source, it's worth reviewing if your organization operates within the business data space.

  • Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration  - Business Entity Verification Services and Technical Support TSA must continue its existing BEVS capabilities to provide real-time, validated business information so that TSA can vet participants in the air cargo supply chain and conduct risk analysis to minimize security vulnerabilities. This contract will provide data licenses, software licenses, and an integrated information source to assist the TSA Air Cargo Program in verifying if businesses and individual proprietors are legitimate while continuing the business data foundations (based on the DUNS format and proprietary logic, name of business, DUNS number, ownership, physical location, etc.).

In other data news, on June 7th, The Washington Post published an article entitled U.S. watchdog warns unemployment benefits are at ‘high risk’ of fraud, abuse. In this story, Tony Romm describes how Federal officials have opened more than 38,000 ‘investigative matters’ since mid-March raising concerns over technology troubles and racial disparities plaguing the system, per two recent GAO Reports.

  • The stark message from the Government Accountability Office came amid a raft of new reports that laid bare the challenges facing the country’s jobless aid program, which remains underfunded, inadequately staffed and plagued by such poor technology that states have struggled to assist Americans in need, even resulting in 'substantial racial and ethnic disparities.'”
