Welcome to Carpe Datum’s Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 1) newsletter. With the Holidays kicking into high-gear, the Government’s procurement engine finally seems to be slowing down just a tad. Ultimately, it’s hard to tell if this shift has more to do with the season of the year or the Nation’s official commencement of the Presidential Transition process. Either way, your friends at Carpe Datum will be on this wall for you…waiting, searching and finding those juicy Data & Analytics opportunities for you!

Sources Sought – US Department of Agriculture/Rural Development -- Common Enterprise Loan Origination and Servicing (CELOS) Platform – Rural Development will implement a Common Enterprise Loan Origination and Servicing (CELOS) platform that uses industry standard forms, data sets, and data definitions utilizing low-code/no-code solutions. The preferred solution will include the use of Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) / Government-off-the-Shelf (GOTS) products, Data as a Service (DaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). The solution should have the capability to integrate all customer data so that RD has an enterprise view for customer relationships. The solution may use operational data stores and must store all data in a central data repository. The solution must provide an enterprise data dictionary.
In other data news, on December 11th, Federal News Network published an interesting article entitled Contagion of fraud: PPP exploits designed to bypass ID verification in which the author, Jonathan McDonald, highlights how most government agencies aren’t in the business of looking for significant technologies that are available to keep fraudsters in check. Their main job is simply to look out for consumers and the economy on an everyday level.
- “Nevertheless, good technologies do exist that can help stop criminal activity within support programs, and organizations are already using these tools effectively. Government agencies can leverage these technologies and potentially save millions or even billions of dollars, which can lessen anxiety about the ballooning national debt and free resources up for a more effective COVID-19 response. And so, education and awareness about these technologies is vital.”
