Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 3, Issue 37). We hope everyone is healthy and getting back into the swing of things as the Feds’ FY21 closeout buying bonanza kicks into overdrive. The content of this week’s newsletter reflects the government’s heighten focus to fully utilize their annual budget allocations. Specifically, we are seeing a healthy dose of exciting opportunities for companies selling data and analytic services. These opportunities cut across a diverse set of requirements – including global business information, background screening services, consumer data, fraud detection solutions, and insider threat services. Hopefully, there’s something for everyone!
In other data news, on August 19th, Nextgov published an interesting article entitled, States Snag $240M to Combat Unemployment Fraud. In this article, Andrea Noble describes how the U.S. Department of Labor announced it will allocate $240 million in grants to states to bolster fraud detection and prevention efforts. The money includes $100 million in leftover CARES Act funding and $140 million from the American Rescue Plan.
- “Acknowledging that too few states have the resources and expertise necessary to address the wide scope of attacks that unemployment systems have faced during the pandemic, the Labor Department also announced that it is working with three companies—LexisNexis, TransUnion and V3Gate—that utilize cross matching technology to verify the identity of unemployment program applicants. The department is making those identity verification services available to states to purchase. The department did not provide the cost of services.”
